I gave you the correct link.

That link is incorrect.

The setting GUI peak luminance in HDR PQ mode is found in System -> Display see https://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/System/D...DR_PQ_mode

It is under Display since it limits the peak luminance of the entire GUI as well as any overlays rendered by Kodi, and this includes subtitles.

This Setting is currently only avaiable on Windows.

It is really an important feature while HDR/Dolby Vision is more and more common nowadays.
Especially for those Android-built-in TV sets.

I second this request. The Android version really needs a feature like this too. Setting the subtitle color to a good color for SDR material means it's far too bright for HDR / Dolby Vision material.

The other way around is also true. A good HDR/DV subtitle color is far too dark for SDR material.

It's quite tiresome having to change the subtitle color manually before starting a new movie or episode every time Smile

Kodi supports .ass subs afaik and under that you can style your subtitles in whichever way you want

if that doesn't work in kodi then it should be a worthwhile en-devour to add full support for stylized subs
then kodi does not need to decide hdr/sdr as it will just display the subs as intended

with that, perhaps it would be possible to add an override with an "on the fly" srt->ass conversion that will use user presets to stylize

but kodi wouldn't be able to do anything with graphic based subs like PGS

PGS subtitles are "usually" already encoded with a color tint that matches the movie material.

I'm not sure your suggestion for on-the-fly conversion would work with the various streaming add-ons like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max etc. Nice idea though.

In the mean time it would already make me happy if we just got the ability to switch between two subtitle colors using the OSD menu or an action that could be assigned to a button. That would greatly improve usability instead of having to go through the Player -> Subtitles -> Subtitle color menu each time before starting a video.

Nice @jogal Is it possible to do same with Linux?

I like the original request: Allow Kodi to set subtitle colour for HDR, that would work for srt subtitles which I use. Same settings Kodi has now for subs but duplicated for HDR and used when HDR is active.

That would work across all platforms.

Theres talk of fixing bright HDR subtitles by using multiple planes but if Netflix hasn’t done this yet then there’s no hope Kodi will do it in the short term.

I vote for new HDR subtitle settings!
