Android [SOLVED] Videos unsmooth/pause, Audio stop, time playback speed skew.. but not in VLC
#1
Some files will pause, other lose audio sync, smoothness erratic especially at higher framerates.

I thought the this problem was because of Android using MediaCodec, but VLC plays all files flawlessly. The android box can handle 4K@60fps. I'm only using for 1080 and below.

I have tried various options in regarding sycning to no avail.

Running on:

Kodi (18.9 (18.9.0) Git:20201023-0655c2c718). Platform: Android ARM 32-bit
Amlogic TX9 Pro with Android 7.1.2 API level 25, kernel: Linux ARM 32-bit version 3.14.29
FFmpeg version/source: 4.0.4-Kodi
Host CPU: AArch64 Processor rev 4 (aarch64), 8 cores available
Product: q201, Device: q201, Board: q201 - Manufacturer: Amlogic, Brand: Amlogic, Model: TX9 Pro, Hardware: amlogic

Debug log of Big Buck Bunny below (1080p@60fps)

Any suggestions,

Thanks.

Try to see if CoreELEC is available for your device and use that.
You have a very ancient device with a S912 chipset that was discontinued.
Better buy a new S905X3 device with proper CoreELEC support and that can also use the AFR app for frame-rate switching.

Thank you for the reply. CoreElec is a great platform and I use it on 3 other boxes. The reason for not resorting to CoreElec is that this Android box uses other android apps not available on CoreElec on an hourly basis. The fact that is works perfectly on VLC in android os suggests that there is an issue in Kodi that can be resolved.

Use VLC as external player. Kodi won't see major updates in the near future for android.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
