Fwiw, I've never used a dedicated folder for sets. Not for artwork or titles. Usually, when I add a new movie, it automagically is added to an existing set. If I have one movie and at some point I add a sequel, a set is automagically created containing both movies. Occasionally, sets might not be created automatically so I manually create and name them in the Kodi GUI using the manage tab in the context menu. Artwork for a new set is hit and miss depending what is in the scraper database. If there isn't set artwork available, Kodi usually defaults to the 1st title artwork contained in the set. Sometimes I grab set artwork using the info window choose art tab. It displays available selectable remote set artwork which works great if you didn't like what defaulted. Sometimes there's many choices and other times none. I use Universal scraper and Artwork Dump too as mentioned.

Leave it out... or try a comma, or try a dash, or try a period.

Are you using local artwork, or are you relying on the scrapers to provide the artwork?
If you have no local artwork, then no need to use the movie set folder.
If you are relying on the scrapers to provide the movie set artwork, and no artwork is displayed after scraping, have you checked TheMovieDB and fanart.tv to confirm artwork is available? Provide the links and I can check also.
