Adding covers to mp4
#16
After more looking, after looking this page over again https://www.howtogeek.com/301671/how-and...our-media/ that apparently is not good
So i just create sub-folder inside of the MSIF folder, name the subs as the movie names and drop my poster inside of each sub-folder.
I would have to do that on the computer with my USB drive connected so i can work better.

For Example: the sub-folder inside of the MSIF folder name Home Alone the same name format as the movie file.
So once i drop the artwork in the MSIF home alone sub-folder should the artwork in the sub-folder just be poster.jpg or png since it will be in the MSIF sub-folder name home alone

Are you misunderstanding the MSIF?
MSIF is not for movie artwork.
MSIF is for Sets/Collection artwork.

The artwork for Home Alone should be in the same folder as the video file.
The artwork for the Home Alone Collection is saved in a subfolder of the MSIF... https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/98...collection

Do you understand the difference?

The above comment makes me believe you are making a mistake.
Please answer my question:
Do you understand that the MSIF is for Movie Sets, not movies?

Success
Some how, When i still had the USB drive connected to my Laptop to do a movie test, I just did this
Created the MSIF folder and name the MSIF sub-folders Home Alone (1990)
I also created the MOVIES folder on the main drive and name the MOVIES sub-folder Home Along (1990)

So i name the movie Home Alone (1990).mp4
                              Home Along (1990)-poster.jpg

Some how, i renamed the MSIF folder Movier-set art.

Then when i re- connected the USB drive back to the Pi, i set everything that i needed and i did that export deal and some how when going to MOVIE folder and clicked on it to enter my sub-folder that has the movie file, i was amazed, right there in bright colors, shows the movie cover. The thing is, i think that i for how to do it again.

All i did is name the movie file and movie poster
Home Alone (1990).mp4
Home Along (1990)-poster.jpg
and name the sub-folder inside of the MSIF folder Home Along (1990)
So, all i did is renamed the MSIF folder to Mover-set art.

first off, the movie cover shows up.
My second question is, on kodi home screen, why when i scroll down to pictures and click on my USB drive and it shows the cover on the sub-folder and movie inside of the sub-folder is the movie file.
But when i scroll down to Video, i can select my USB drive from there too, but no movie cover showing.
So, why when i go to the Picture link on the home screen and select the USB and there shows the movie cover posted on the sub-folder like it expose to and open the sub-folder like a dvd case and the mp4 inside of it.
But when i excess the usb drive from the Video label on the Kodi home screen, i can get to my MP4 but no mover cover showing.
So, it will show up when i go to Pictures but not when i go to Video.
https://postimg.cc/qg4mgM0J
So, normally, i can go to my Video and click on the USB drive, but this, i go to pictures and that where i go in my USB drive and show everything the Movie cover and with the movie

@general79

I think there is a problem here. Either I am misunderstanding you, or you are misunderstanding me.

Can you please clearly explain to me what you are trying to do.

Ok, lets refresh

Right now, I have the USB drive connected to the computer, so i can set up the folders.
I created two folders in the main drive.
MOVIE folder that has many sub-folders inside for each movie name after their own movies title
for Example: One sub-folder is name Home Alone with the MP4 inside.

I created a second folder on the main USB drive Movie-Set art aka (Movie Set Information Folder)
inside of the Movie-set folder is Sub-folders each one is named after the movie title.

So do i save the movie posters inside of the MSIF sub-folder.
I here from one place that you put the movie artwork inside of the movie folder with the MP4
Put I see here https://kodi.wiki/images/a/ac/LocalMovieSetsArt01.jpg that each artwork goes into the Sub-folders inside of the MSIF folder
This is the only method that Kodi will use to search and cache local movie set artwork. Movie set artwork saved in the movie folders will not be recognised.

Forgot to include I have now updated Kodi 20.2

To confirm, you are trying to set up your library and you want to use local artwork. I was getting a bit confused for two reasons:
1. The discussion and your images for "Pictures" library. I don't know what you are trying to do there. "Pictures" library is meant for your home photos, birthdays, christmas photos etc. It has nothing to do with movies or tv shows.
2. There was the constant talk about adding images to MSIF, but it looks like you are adding the movie images there which is wrong.

Ok, this sounds good so far. Smile

First, there is a difference between a movie and a Set, also known as a Collection.
The movies will consist of Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Home Alone 3 etc
Now all those movies can be put together in a Set. That is what the MSIF is used for.
This is movie sets... https://kodi.wiki/view/Movie_sets

No. You do not save the movie poster inside the MSIF.
The posters and all the other artwork for your movie is saved next to the video file.
See this image here... https://kodi.wiki/view/Movie_artwork
You are using mp4 files, so you want the Single Movie Files layout.

The MSIF contains the artwork for the SET / Collection. IT IS NOT THE MOVIE
This is a Movie Set/Collection... https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/98...collection
I explained this above in post #18 already. Either you haven't understood the difference between a movie and a set, or I am not clear with what you are writing.

To be clear... Do not put the movie posters in the MSIF.

I am not really sure how to explain that any better.

Now that i have KODI on the computer, i was playing around with it.
For my needs, all Since i  don't keep my Pi connected to the internet uless i updated KODI every few months.

I just removed the MSIF folder from the USB drive and Just my main folder MOVIE folder with the sub-folders for each movie file and poster along with it.
All i did went back to the computer access the usb drive, the movie file stays the same
Home Alone (1990).mp4 and the poster just name poster.

So instead of naming the movie poster like Home Alone (1990)-poster.jig or poster.jig which that would be why the movies will show up in PICTURES with the Movie poster showing.
So, i started messing around with KODI on the computer and tried many things out renaming the posters.
So i just rename the poster just plain poster. No .jig just plain poster and access the video and went to my USB drive on the TV that is and went to the MOVIE source folder, and select scroll down the list of movies and my movie covers were showing.

One question.
When i do go to my movie collection, under were the poster is display, it says below No Information avalible
https://postimg.cc/kV9wgq80 righ below the cover
