Bug or feature? If HD powers down for powersavemode music hick-ups
#1
Not sure if it's a bug or feature request.
I have xp and xbmc works great. The hd the music is on spins down after 5 minutes to save energy. However, xbmc buffers only the current song. So if the song if finished and the HD is spines down it takes a. Few seconds to spin up again to load the next song. Hereby the music studders.

Is it possible to make xbmc read ahead say the first 10 sec. Of the next song BEFORE the current song is finished? To keep playback smooth

If the song is on the local disk, then this won't occur.

The problem is it's loading metadata information off the local disk (database) and/or the thumbnail. This involves loading a dll which will cause this sort of behaviour perhaps. We are planning to review the dll loading + unloading after Atlantis (rewrite for win32, as there's problems on vista currently).

The song you are playing must be more than 5 minutes long I presume for this to occur.

And yes, it already pre-caches the next song towards the end of the current song in order to do crossfading and the like.

Cheers,
Jonathan
