fast forward play everytime ?
#1
i just installed the new ubuntu release and got xbmc installed too.

but when i start a movie i have to problems:

1)the video is beeing played "faster thatn normal"... looks like fast forward..
(in the windows section there are new ffmped DLLs...are those available for linux too ?)

2) no ac3/dts sound in a movie... i can hear the navigation sound in the menue though...
maybe the sound issue is due to the "fast forward" issue too...

just to state: in vlc for example everything works fine!

hardware: intel c2d 2,66 ghz, nvidia video card with binary drivers..

would love to get any tips to get xbmc working.

They are both related to the same issue. You need to go into the System settings in XBMC, then in to the Audio Hardware settings. Make sure that both the "Audio Output Device" and "Passthrough Output Device" are set to iec958. That should fix the problems.

tried that already, did not fix the problem.

but another posting in this forum had a workaround:

just using this little script! It did the job in first tests

#!/bin/bash
pulseaudio -k
sleep 2
xbmc
pulseaudio -D

What if you just remove it from xsession.d so that it never starts. Could that break something else on the system?
This is what I did but I'm not a linux guy so I thought i should ask...Oo

Thanks, this helped a lot. Can anyone explain why this is caused? Now my XBMC doesn't lock up from simple things like stopping or fast forwarding anymore, but there is a light sound effect delay when browsing the menus with my keyboard. I liked having XBMC on Ubuntu because it was much snappier, and this fix kinda broke that.

Just running the script, killing pulseaudio for then enabling it later does the trick. No biggies on it really.
