Upgrading ATI driver in XBMC live
#1
Hi,

I've got XBMC Live installed on my hard drive and everything is just peachy. Only problem is some visable tearing in videos and I was hoping to try AMD's Catalyst 8.11 driver to see if the problem has been fixed. I tried dpkg -l to try and find the fglrx package but that came up short so I'm thinking the driver isn't installed with .deb. Not wanting to taint the system by installing the .deb from the Catalyst installer without knowing what I'm overwriting, could anyone tell me if there is a better way of upgrading the Radeon driver in Live or am I doomed to wait for the new driver to be included in XBMC Live?

On another note, is there a way of running Catalyst Control Center in XBMC Live?

New drivers, you have to:
- create a huge ext3fs.img (700 MB +)
- install a full kernel devel environment
- start catalyst installer, that builds the kernel module and copies the drivers
- identify the new files
- create a new img file with these new files only

As per the ccc, start XBMC Live in safe mode and once in fluxbox you can use an xterm and launch it
