New content type for Music DVD?

Hi all,

I have been looking information on to handle Music DVD ISOs and some have answered but with no real solution http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=45232 . This kind of media is very common nowadays and is not handled by XBMC (neither any media center I think)

I propose to add a new content type in XBMC which could be "Music DVD", wich of course it should have a scrapper (I found that Music DVD info can be found in http://www.allmusic.com).

Then, a new item should be created in the Main Menu, which could be also "Music DVD" , to access to this new content

What do you guys think? Could be this possible?

Not to make assumptions about what Spiff is implying Wink but I replied to your other thread with some options for you in case you don't have the coding skills to implement this feature as you have described above. Cheers.

Well, the thing is that this would be good if the Music DVD can be added to the library as easy as a movie or TV-Show, not by adding extra work or extra software (I know that it's not that hard).

I just only point out that this would be great if it's integrated into the code of XBMC and the user doesn't have to make the options you give me, which by the way, I really appreciate!

Thanks

I just create a nfo file resulting the following path:

DVD -> AcDc - Live At Donington
DVD -> AcDc - Live At Donington -> AcDc - Live At Donington.mkv
DVD -> AcDc - Live At Donington -> AcDc - Live At Donington.nfo

The NFO contains the url in allmusic.

I added the DVD folder as a source folder, set content to Music Video, NFO scrapper and when I click on the "Scan for new content" option, nothing happens.

any ideas what could be wrong?

I have wel over 150 concert dvd's that I have burned as .iso files. Most of them appear on imdb just like movies, but some do not. Either way, I used Media Companion to do the initial scan and create the .nfo files. For those that were found, it pulled down all of the relevant information and covers. For those it did not find I went onto the web and found the dvd covers and for all of them I found fanart at various sources:
http://www.htbackdrops.com
http://www.bandswallpapers.com

and of course the music packs found here:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=43390

This process while a little time consuming is well worth it. The ability to edit the .nfo files is invaluable as most concerts have little or no "plot" information aside from maybe where the concert as performed and when. For multi disc sets like Live Aid, I edit the plot and have the track list of each disc. This way when you hover over the cover in library view and movie information comes up, you can easily see if the track you are looking for is on that disc or not.

I didn't particularly like having them mixed in with my movie collection so I used the profile function in xbmc. I have one profile for Movies and one profile for Concerts each pointing to different sources. After all, it's not likely that you will be wanting to mix and match when your watching anyway. When I am entertaining, I almost exclusively have concerts playing on my ht screen as it provides both a visual and music backdrop for guests....And when they see me scroll through the AWESOME interface of xbmc and see the dvd covers and background fanart they are blown away....

Thanks for the Tip...but I have a problem now.

I installed Media Companion and it creates all the NFO files in the DVD Folders. Create a new Profile and added a new source. Choose the DVD Folder, set content to Music Video, NFO Scrapper and OK. Then I choose "Update Library" and nothing happens, no video is added to the Library

What could be wrong? Do I need one of the recent build of XBMC? I'm using 8.10

Solved.

Just have to delete the source and add it again and now XBMC reads the NFOs

Why not add to themoviedb.org. The next time you don't have to make nfo's if you lost your data, I asked the creator of the site and he's ok with it. For example I added Tiesto in Concert. http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/12963

bumping this thread...

I have hundreds of concert DVDs, and I've love to have them in XBMC, but they don't really fit in "Movies" or "Music Videos"

There should be a Music DVD library, for concert DVDs as well as music instruction (I have alot of DVDs on guitar playing, documentaries on albums, how to record music)...

If this feature is ever implemented in XBMC, I promise to add hundreds of concerts to the scraper!

I guess it will be somehow possible after the review of the video library it could be a genre and then you will use the new smart playlist to have a different menu entry... well depending also on how the skins will start to use that new possibilities.

I know that I'm reopening this, but anyone has any news about this topicHuh

What should be the destiny of the Music DVD in XBMC?

I know that the info could be scrapped from themoviedb or other site, but the main thing is that there's no category in XBMC like Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc...

Thanks
