audio/video get subtle out of sync progressively as the video plays
#1
Hi,

I'm using svn r18399 and I'm experiencing audio/video out of sync. Movie starts fine (in sync) but it gets out of sync progressively as the video plays. Usually in 40min audio gets around 150-200ms ahead of the video (subtle I know Smile. My hardware is an asus P5N7A-VM and I'm using the spdif passthrough). However this behaviour happens in mkv videos with 5.1 audio and xvid with mp3 stereo. Anyone with similar problems? I've checked the forums and trac tickets but couldn't find anything with similar problems...

Here is a debug log with the effect: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/129485/

I'm in ubuntu intrepid and compiling with pulseaudio support. I'm going to try without and killing pulseaudio before starting xbmc...

Ok, I've tried without pulseaudio and same problem. Well actually not exactly the same as yesterday I realized the audio also start not in sync (around 150-200ms) and keeps drifting as the vidoe plays. My next test will be using the live CD to see if I still get the video lag.

Nobody has ever seen this problem with the p5n7a-vm asus motherboard? :confused2:

Now I'm guessing my setup is responsible but I've got a plasma TV connected through HDMI (plasma tv are suppose to have very low lag) and an Onkyo receiver with the optical sound output so it shouldn't be Sad

I've tested yesterday with VLC and all my videos play fine in sync so it seems XBMC's fault and not my hardware setup. Videos start with audio 150ms ahead of video and move to around 200ms in 20/30 minutes... Sad

I don't know how to further test this. Log files do not seem to say anything. Could someone with a similar setup help me testing this? I've found a nice video sample here: http://www.w6rz.net/avsync.zip

It's just a test with color bars appearing and dissapearing in sync with a tone. I'm running compiled XBMC in ubuntu intrepid 64. An asus p5n7a-vm motherboard with spdif optical audio.

regards, and thanks for your help!!

OK, I'll post to myself again. I'm now quite sure I'm hit by this bug people in the windows forum are refering to (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=41185) "audio is out of sync when playing 23.98 videos in a 24Hz screen". Also a trac ticket here: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/5755

I hope it get solved soon. If any dev read this I'd gladly try to help solving this problem.

More or less the exact smae thing as you say.

I havent investigated this too much, but i hope to collect some debug info
and test some different scenarios first.
