Black levels

I need to raise my brightness in XBMC to about 55 because my TV doesn't handle 0-255 black levels via HDMI.
When i do that the CPU usage goes up very high and HDTV material doesn't play smooth.

Anyone know what will happen if you raise the brightness with a VDPAU compatible card. I don't wan't to buy one if there will be any problems with that. Running on a integrated Nvidia 7100 now.
I know theres a ticket (5019) about black levels but theres no update for the last 2 months.

Everything is fine when I have my brightness raised with VDPAU card. I did have the higher cpu when not using vdpau and increased brightness.
