Running the Aptitude Update Script on XBMC Live 9.04 asks for password?
#1
Question
When i start aptitude on LIVE 9.04 (installed to HDD) it wants to download 6 files (3MB) and then asks for a password. Tried "xbmc" etc but i always get "failed to upgrade".

What do i need to do?

THX.

Please provide Debug Log.

Also how did you install XBMC Live, on HDD or USB. Is it 9.04 or 9.04.1?

Cheers,
Tobias

I installed Live 9.04.0 to a local HDD.

So you were asked to provide your own password at install time. That is the one you have to use.

I used "xbmc" during installation of Live. But that doesn't work for aptitude.
SFTP or SSH is fine.

It seems to fail to load python-apt, Are you certain you have python-apt installed? It was missing in 9.04.0 afaik.

Tobias.

errr, ok, I did a "sudo apt-get install xbmc-live python-apt". Was that correct??

During the install process I'm getting:

dpkg: error processing xbmc-live (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
xbmc-live
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I tried aptitude afterwards but it is still asking for a password and afterwards I get "failed to upgrade"...

Maybe I should start with a fresh install of 9.04.1 - or just use my install a little bit longer since I have r20654 now... ;-)

Yeah I think it's screwed up Smile

9.04.1 should have python-apt afaik.

there is something to be fixed in the xbmc-live package, indeed!

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have installed babylon 9.04.1 Live to my PC HDD. I installed username/password as xbmc/xbmc. I run this aptitude script, enter xbmc as password, and then it comes back to me saying failed. I have gone set a password on the 'root' user account and tried this password but no luck. I have tried changing permissions but no luck. I scanned the xbmc.log file and found this

21:00:09 T:2743712656 M:902574080 DEBUG: /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/apt/__init__.py:2: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module apt_pkg: This Python has API version 1012, module apt_pkg has version 1013.

and further down found this

21:13:06 T:2743712656 M:878649344 DEBUG: /home/xbmc/.xbmc/scripts/Common Scripts/Aptitude/default.py:59: DeprecationWarning: integer argument expected, got float

the filesharing site I use started undergoing maintenance when 5 was at 74% uploaded my xbmc.log. So 5 can upload again later if needed.

why don't you use pastebin?
OpenElec Standalone --> Asus Chromebox 'Panther' --> Onkyo TX-NR709 --> Sony 55" X85C Android TV (also with Kodi!)
Asus Chromebox EZ Script
Kodi on Sony Bravia Android TVs

First one is perfectly safe, second one should be no problem.

Full Debug Log is the only way to get why it's failing. But it's probably xbmc-live package.

Cheers,
Tobias.
