Greetings guys, help me please!!!

I've never seen this rather unusual thing before. As the title says, I can hear/play sound when I play back movies but there is no sound when I try to play some music (mp3 or m4a etc.). It was working just fine for everything and suddenly just stopped for the music. I checked the alsamixer and it's fine there (remember, the sound works for movies). I'm totally confused. Can any one pls help? Friends are coming over to see my new system and now I don't have sound for them. I really very much appreciate if any one can help me with some clue(s).

You really need to play both a movie and a musicfile when creating a Debug Log, otherwise it's almost entirely useless

first I played a movie (from HDD) and then tried a mp3. Let me know if any thing else you may need to know.

Thanks very much cewan; "/usr/bin/iecset audio on" fixed my problems and now I'm feeling rather silly. I'm using S/PDIF out. I think once I had to kill xbmc when it got stuck and probably since then there was no audio for music. But I still don't understand how sound from movies coming out but not from music.
