VDPAU - What does it scale?
#1
just a simple question:

which codecs does the VDPAU-feature scale/decode and which not?

i've read, that mpg2 isn't featured yet?

h264 and vc1. mpeg2 isn't currently due to lack of overlay support required for DVD menus.

when decoding mpg2 or xvid: which rendering "engine" works in background, when you are using linux-xbmc with vdpau enabled?
and one more, maybe silly, question: does it downscale?
1080 to 720?

i'm going to build a zotac-ion system and was asking myself, if the picture quality could get even worse (compared to the 720p xbox).

We render with OpenGL with all other formats and scale to w/e the output resolution is you've chosen.

You're worrying about nothing and asking well addressed questions. Please take some time to research a subject before getting your panties in a bunch.
