Ripping-CD to SMB/SAMBA server
#1
hi,

i attempted to set the rip path to an smb share as follows:

<cddarippath>smb://username:[email protected]/somedirectory/</cddarippath>

now, clicking on "rip" does nothing: from the user pov, xbmc just ignores the keypress.

it would be great if ripping to smb was available Smile

many thanks for a great piece of software

no, it is not possible, (because xbmc smb/samba code is read only, write support has as not been coded). moving to suggestions forum

noticed that the latest release of xbmc now supports writing to samba shares, does this now mean that we will be able to rip cds to a network share soon??

while this is a great feature in general, freakin why would you want to do this- surely it'd be a lot faster to do it from your pc? especially if the specs of your pc are > than xbox Huh + there is more formats to rip too (nearly all of which xbmc can play :d )

p.s. thanks again darkie!

pleased to hear it should work soon.

i want to do this because my pcs are nearly always tied up doing something, easy just to shove the cd in the xbox and hit rip (if the xbox is sat doing nothing it may as well get some more use).

xbmc just gets better by the day, thanks!!

does this actually work yet?
i just tried the build from 2004-11-15, and had no luck even if the posts here suggest this should be fixed quite a while ago.

yes it works, you must of course setup an account on your pc (smb) server that has both read and write access or it will not work

the server is ok.
but when i add smb://user:pass@host/path to cddarippath literally nothing happens when i "click" on 'rip cd'.

i'll turn on some more debug info as soon as i get home.

oh, and btw.
is it possible to make it write to artist/album/title, not only album/title?

no, it won't work, as the cddaripper does not use the xbmc filesystem stuff.

as many others have stated, the real use for this is minimal - most cd-rom/dvd-rom drives are faster than the xbox drive, and you have a much better environment to set up tags etc. from a pc than you do from the xbox.

still no luck.
turned on debug (loglevel 0) and this is what i get in the logfile:

<snip>
18-11-2004 18:47:32 debug cddarippath: smb://xxx:[email protected]/audio/
<snip>
18-11-2004 18:47:32 debug share name: samba
18-11-2004 18:47:32 debug share path: smb://xxx:[email protected]/audio/
<snip>
18-11-2004 18:48:04 error exception in capplication::framemove()
18-11-2004 18:48:07 error exception in capplication::framemove()
18-11-2004 18:50:04 error exception in capplication::framemove()

the last three lines are from when i click on rip cd. if i set the path back to the default e:\... everything works.
i use the exact same path in one of the music shares, and i know it is writable.

btw. this is a build from 2004-11-15

thanks for all help so far.

rgds.
