I am in the us and all of the dvd's I have are region 1. But for some reason I have one dvd that, in xmbc, say that it's not formatted to play in this region? It plays fine with the apple dvd player. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to play in xmbc?

Rip it with RipIt!

I just recently ran into this problem as well. It is actually a DVD that i used RipIt to rip and add to my external HD. The file plays fine on my Mac, but says its not formatted for Region 1?
