Playing back 1080p movie on 720p TV - getting ~10 FPS
#1
Hi Guys,

Take for example the following 1080p movie stored in Matroska container :-
Size: 11 GB
Video Encoder: x264 - Aspect Ratio: 2.41:1 (1920x796) - avg bitrate: 8965 kb/s
Audio Codec: DTS - BitRate 1536 kb/s - Channels 5.1

It is stored on an external USB drive directly connected to ATV.

XBMC build is r26651 - with Crystal HD support activated.

The TV is a 50hz Panasonic 720p plasma.

When playing the movie back, i'm getting approximately 10 fps.
CPU usage however is only around 35%.

Is this type of performance expected due to I assume some type of software based downscaling?

If I had a 1080p TV, would I still be getting 10fps?

I'm getting the full 24fps on 720p movies.

cheers

Matt.

Matt.

Shouldn't be an issue, I have an atv with crystal hd and a panasonic tc-p42X1 plasma (720p native) and I have no problem display 1080p content at 24fps. Seems to be around 70% cpu usage. I have noticed that the crystal hd does not always start playback correctly, sometimes I have to restart playback several times before it works properly, but this I am sure will be fixed for a final releaseBig Grin

Also I am not sure about your plasma but mine operates at 600hz...

Refresh rates of TVs are the equivalent to the resolution of Digicams - more Megapixels do not necessarily mean a better quality. Or to say in different words: There are 100 Hz TV's with a better picture than others with 600 Hz.

Btw: Why do you fullquote a posting that you directly answer to? :confused2:

SVN build 26936 appears to have corrected the issue!

I'm now getting 24 fps with about 55% cpu useage!
