Question
Hi,

Should DVD playback pass through the Broadcom card or will it continue to be software rendering?

Thanks

DVD playback requires DVD navigation in addition to handing just mpeg2 decoding. As we have a perfectly fine method of DVD playback and it's well within the reach of being handled in software decode under the AppleTV, there is no reason to add all the bits required for full DVD playback using the Broadcom CrystalHD card.

Would this not allow for better upscaling etc?

I found the DVD playback through my Apple TV wasn't stable enough to replace the PS3.

I know its just me, but I don't use the DVD menus, just the film itself.

upscaling != decode. crystalhd is a decoder not a display device.
