Coax / Optical Digital Output to Dolby Dig / DTS Receiver
#1
Can any body help? I have installed xbmc on Ubuntu ver 9.04 and have an onboard Realtek ALC850 soundchip which has both Optical and coax output ...this is connected to a denon DTS / Dolby Dig capable Receiver I have tried both coax and optical connections but get the same result...

I get sound but only in an analogue form, not in DTS or Dolby Digital.

If I change the system setting in xbmc to Digital and enable DTS & AC3 I loose sound?

Audio Output Device is Nvidia CK804

With Passthrough Device is iec958

All hardware is working fine and I have used the same hardware previously on a Windows Media Centre setup using ffdshow to enable SPDif out.Oo

Try setting iec958 on both audio and passthrough.

Or:
- Run "aplay -l" in console
- For ur card u should probably c something like this; iec958:CARD=Nvidia,DEV=0
- Go back to XBMC
- Set audio and passthrough to custom
- Type in "plug:iec958:CARD=Nvidia,DEV=0" for audio device and "iec958:CARD=Nvidia,DEV=0" for passthrough.

On the first setting I get "Failed to Initialize Audio Device"

On the second
I've no error message. but not stereo sound or pass-through.

this was my setting "iec958:CARD=CK804,DEV=0"

I hope you have another idea.

Edit: I fount the solution! surround51:CARD=CK804,DEV=0

Set audio and pass-through to 'custom'
Type in "surround51:CARD=CK804,DEV=0" for audio device and pass-through.

And my system rocks!

Hi,

I have a strange problem with the same chip, i try to solve since a long time.

Using the chip on windows everything works fine.

But on the xbmc live, it won't work in a satisfying way. So it only works if i start a movie and wind forward and backwards multiple times. Or i go to alsamixer and toggle spdif on and off multiple times.

So it seems the stream have to be restarted. But i have no doubt why or how to avoid it.

The analog output works without problems. And the receiver works fine on every device except my XBMC.

I hope someone can help me
