Too much use of the CPU in the netbook
#1
Hi there.

If got a problem with XBMC. This time in my netbook.

The netbook is a Compaq mini 311c, wich has an Atom 230 (single core 1.6 GHz), Nvidia ION, 3GB RAM and Windows XP Pro SP3.

XBMC works good, all fine, but when i play any video (HD or not HD) I see too much use of the CPU (60% aprox.) and for example if i play the same video with Media Player Classic the use of CPU is around 10-20% aprox., because the Nvidia ION does the decoding work.

How I do for making the ION work too when using XBMC? I guess I have to change something in the congiguration of Ffdshow, but I don't know what exactly.

Can somebody help me please? Thanks!

Note: despite the CPU is not so much powerfull, this netbook can play 1080p videos without problems thanks to the ION GPU.

What build of XBMC are you using to play your media? There are presently 2 methods of dxva playback. Natively with the latest nightly builds and change video playback to dxva in the video settings of xbmc (technically this variant shouldn't work with xp, but someone on the support thread - see here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=69306&page=54 - post #532 etc seems to have had success using it, therefore might be a good starting point)

The other alternative is the DSPlayer build, see this thread for details http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=61355 - this utilises DirectShow filters within the xbmc framework to implement dxva - a bit more complex, but follow the instructions and read the WIKI (see page 1 of the thread for the link), configure your xml file accordingly and you should be good to go - a default installation should enable immediate playback, without to much alteration.
