XBMC on two TV's..?
#1
Hi guys.

Have finally got my first set up running as i want it, I have been sitting on the fence taking advice from this great forum as I built it up, whilst not top spec it serves my purpose well for the size of house I have. Now I want to expand it one step further i have been racking my brain on how to approach this and typically probably been thinking to hard so...this is my question.

What i want to achieve is putting another TV (32" LG LCD) in my kitchen and, want to use it just as a freeview box for watching general TV but, more importantly i want to send the XBMC signal currently hooked up to my HDMI2 to listen to music etc

I have a Small shuttle PC set up as HDPC with digital out to HDMI 2, this PC stores all my music/pictures and movies, what is the best way to have a simultanious signal to two TV's

A long HDMI cable and "clone display" may be all you need to show it on both displays. XBMC video performance could be adversely affected, but try it out and see if it works for you.

Hmmm thought of that but,

Would that mean me splitting the HDMI output frm the PC or, taking a long HDMI cable from the HDMI output of my main TV..?

Was thinking possibly a Video sender from the PC s video output but, not sure if that would do the job?

Your video card should have at least 2 digital outputs, if you have HDMI plugged into your main tv, the other digital out is probably DVI, if so then you'll have only a video signal into your other tv if you use a DVI -> HDMI cord.

I see, so the only other option is video sender then through S Video?

That is what I was thinking. Hardest part is you need a Bluetooth remote.

That item gets very bad reviews, basically saying it doesn't work... would look for a better splitter.

Potential problems if both tvs don't scale the picture properly or support the same resolution modes.

Or a wifi-phone xbmc app, or a wireless keypad, or, in my case, a Radioshack pyramid to transmit to my usb-uirt in my front room. Possibilities are endless Nod

Do you experience any lag with that?

I did a little research and found that you would probably want to get a powered splitter. Something like this.

Here is an article I found on the subject.

Getting confused on this, ok this is my setup:

Shuttle has one dvi out and i use a HDMI adapter to go into my TV in the front room.

Unlikely be able to use HDMI from the shuttle because the cable would have to be at least 30 ft to get to the kitchen, and doing this would be a nightmare (solid floors etc) so:-

Would a video sender do the job...I know that this would result in loss of quality but, i cannot think of another way

I'm not sure about a video sender. The thing about HDMI is that it also carries the audio. If you run from DVI you will have to run audio also. They make some pretty long HDMI cables. I have also seen adapters that send HDMI signal over cat6 network cable for long runs.

Get one of the cheap HDMI 3x2 switches off ebay, they will replicate the HDMI input to two outputs. Got mine working perfectly like that in two different rooms.
