Is ANYONE running XBMC on a WHS machine?
#1
I currently have my XBMC running on a WHS machine.
I'm in desperate need to get a working remote with it though.
Just using the USB KB/mouse right now.

I can NOT get WHS to properly identify the IR receiver for my remote. Very depressing.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Windows Home Server doesn't have the driver for the Microsoft remote (and compatibles) built in. It might be possible to manually install it if you have an XP machine to copy it from, though this is likely to take some Googling.

The alternative is to use a remote that emulates a keyboard e.g. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Rem...s#VRC-1100

So that receiver is pretty much just a wireless USB dongle then?
In a perfect world I hoped for something that I could in turn us a harmony remote with.
*sigh*

Maybe trying to rip from XP is my only choice.
Any idea what I am looking for?

To be honest, were it my server I wouldn't even try. The scope for shagging the system is too great. Still, it's worth a Google.

Yeah Im thinking I may just get that remote and be done with it. I can always edit the keymappings to my liking.

I kind of like the idea of even having the rudimentary mouse on it too as my machine is not even in the same physical room as the TV (long HDMI and USB over cat5 runs) . This why, if I need to, I can at least navigate Windows SOMEWHAT with the remote.
