advice required switching from xbox to linux.
#1
hi. i've been running (and enjoying) xbmc on a modded xbox for some time now. the box had the dvd remote plus i'd added another ir receiver to allow me to turn the box on and off. audio/video out was via the scart adapter.

i'm now looking to switch to running xbmc on my linux (fedora) server which is running on an acer 6935g. this laptop has a hdmi out port and i'm looking to get one of the mce remote control units.

i've installed xbmc (10.0-0.19.Dharma_beta3) from the rpmfusion repo but at the moment it utilises 100% cpu making the whole server unusable.

before i invest any time investigating this i'd just like to check that my objectives are achievable. the linux server is currently just used to run server based apps. eg. apache, mysql, dovecot, samba, mediatomb, etc. will it be possible to use the remote to start the xbmc app using the hdmi port for audio/video, control xbmc via the remote to watch videos on a tv, and then use the remote to shutdown the app ?

hope that makes sense. any advice appreciated. cheers.
