My xorg.conf when I started this was this:
Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder75) Thu Apr 22 11:44:23 P$
Section "ServerLayout"

InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
EndSection
Section "Files"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
# generated from default
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "auto"

EndSection

Option "DynamicTwinView" "False"

EndSubSection
EndSection

EndSection
I ran the first command then checked xorg.conf and it hadn't changed. I rebooted the pc then checked again and still no change. I did the same with the other command and now xorg.conf reads:
Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

These appear to be identical to me, so I'm assuming the commands either failed or worked but didn't have the intended results. There were no errors that I saw when running them, although when running
I got the following readout
Code:

Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices.
Configuration failed.
ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
Right at the end it says "Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed." Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
Another command I ran as part of some troubleshooting steps from another forum was
Code:
lspci -nn | grep VGA
which gave me
Code:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C77 [GeForce 8300] [10de:0848] (rev a2)
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RV730XT [Radeon HD 4670] [1002:9490]
I'm just trying to anything I can to avoid having to get
another vid card for this pc as this is the third one I've tried.
Thanks for your help, and any more would be most appreciated.
