I believe my atv is jailbroken.
- When I boot without tetheredboot.exe it sits at a black screen.
-Wifi won't connect, but I have plugged into ethernet.
- I got the custom fw from a bud, AppleTV2,1_4.2.1_8C154_Restore.ipsw
Been at this for over 4 hours, ready to give up after reading this
Redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows Will Untether iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak with iOS 4.1 Firmware. Expected to Release Soon
You're jailbreaking it with a stock FW. Get or create a CUSTOM FW.
ok, sounds to me like I made a stupid mistake. I have both the files.
AppleTV2,1_4.2.1_8C154_Custom_Restore.ipsw
AppleTV2,1_4.2.1_8C154_Restore.ipsw
However, when I looked in my my c:/tethered folder, there sits the wrong ipsw file. Wow... lol. I will try again with the correct ipsw file.
Edit: Yep, that did the trick. SSHing now.
Can some one post the md5 sum of both ipsw files (Restore and CustomRestore)
Thanks..

Great idea. This will atleast put an end to knowing if the file was broken or not.

As was posted earlier that would be illegal....though I DID happen to see that if you search 'rapidshare atv2 custom restore.ipsw' some people have already (illegally) posted one.
Not that I'm recommending it of course....
One could probably find it on megaupload as well if they were so inclined.

Haha I wasnt suggesting
that however, just that someone post the hash.
Tried a couple workarounds I seen online about using a hub, and keeping it plugged in during the restore process. Even tried restoring to the normal FW. Error 1601 every time. If there is anyone here in metro detroit I would be willing to pay you if you can flash this damn thing for me.
Ok just tried it now. As usual 1601.
CASHMON3Y Wrote:Thanks, ill try it out in a few minutes. Also it has a link to a custom ipsw, not sure if allowed, but id assume a link in a link is ok.
Good point, if it's not cool I'll remove the direct link and put the link to the site with some direction.

Wow, that's messed up. Have you tried on a couple different PC's? Upgraded itunes? Maybe try a fiends pc instead? Is this your second ATV now?

Read please the whole post you replay to.
The idea is to post MD5 sum or SHA1 so every one can check his ipsw before flashing.
How md5 are illegal is beyond my understanding..
Now back to the root.. Please post an md5 sum of working ipsw..
