There is a file called addon.xml in the skin folder. Change the third line 'id' to something different.

If you want to install the new version along side your old version change the skin directory name and also change the 'name' in the addon.xml so you can see the difference between the skins in kodi.

There is absolutely no reason to do this.

If you are using Kodi 16.x or newer, just go to System | Add-Ons | My Add-Ons | Look and Feel | Skin | Aeon Nox: Silvo and deselect the Auto-Update

RE: Aeon Nox 5: SiLVO - Pr.Sinister - 2016-05-07

@mikesilvo164

First off, i would like to say thanks for a great skin. I was a longtime user of Aeon Nox by Phil and then ShedNox and now MadNox on all my HTPCs but the only one that comes close to those in eye candy and functionality for low end machines is this skin.

I have it installed on all my Android Boxes as well as my mom's, my dad's, my brother's, 5 cousins', and countless friends.

I certainly am not a n00b (been using XBMC since it was XBMP on the Xbox) and i can assure you that several of the boxes never saw the warning message.

I also just tested it by loading a a box with one of my backups and only thing that happened was the screen going black for 15-20 seconds and then the main menu being completely blank.

I could navigate left and right and knew where i was because of the background changing but nothing was selectable.

Rebooting the box and going back into Kodi brought a vertical menu with no textures. The backgrounds were still there and the textures were not so the warning message was not legible and i couldn't figure out which one of the OK or Cancel was selected. So i pressed "S" to bring up the menu and counted the necessary key presses needed to get to the settings. Once there i made my way to Appearance, Selected the skin and switched to Confulence.

I then went to the add-ons, selected Aeon Nox: Silvo, clicked update and chose the latest version again.

Once the download was finished, i switched to Aeon Nox: Silvo, went to the menu setup and all my stuff was there. Since i only use Super Favorites shortcuts for the widgets on the low end boxes, i doubt i need to reset the menu.

Went back to the main menu and widgets work fine.

Now for my family and friends, i fixed their problem by updating the skin for them manually outside of Kodi.

I just overwrote the skin's directory with the new version and when open Kodi after that, THEN you see the message properly and can choose to do what you will.

I have noticed that when the skin in use needs to be updated, your best bet is to switch to Confluence and do it from there. Once it is properly updated, switch back to it.

I am guessing that when you did your tests, you were updating the skin manually and that is why it always worked properly...

In any case, hope this helps some of you...if it did, you know what to press Wink

RE: Aeon Nox 5: SiLVO - Pr.Sinister - 2016-05-07

Funny enough i just tried it on another box and this time the screen went black for a good 5-6 minutes and it came back once the skin finished downloading. I did see the message this time.

So random... 3 out of 5 cousins saw the message too...

You are correct you can simply do just that.

The thing to keep in mind is if kodi auto updates silvo before you get a chance to change that setting you are back to square one. But you might be lucky to get away with it.

My suggestion is a foolproof way (before you even load kodi) to make sure an unexpected update wont update the skin or alternatively have your old and new install side by side.

EDIT: I apologize and I did leave one part out. If you change the id you will also need to change;
"userdata\addon_data\skin.aeon.nox.silvo" to the same name as your 'id'
"userdata\addon_data\script.skinshortcuts\skin.aeon.nox.silvo.hash" also to the same name as your 'id'
This is too keep your old settings.

I spent a lot of time on the logic of this. By design not everyone will see the message. If you did not have the advanced widget setting enabled you'll never see it. This will not cover everyone cause if you've set up widgets and then decided to use the old ones instead by turning off the advanced setting then no warning popup with an option to reset. No matter what you select or if you just close the message it resets the advanced widget setting so you will not see the message again.

The issue is those saying there menu reset cause of the update. I do not see how that is possible because even when you agree to reset it still requires a second confirmation from the user to perform it. This doesn't take into account people who do not wait for the update to finish and I have no idea if that would even trigger a menu reset by the skinshortcuts script. The update will cause a rebuild because of the changes to the overrides and template files but to the best of my knowledge that should not alter any chosen backgrounds or menu items. I think there may be an issue with either some new widget images or texturepacker that might cause longer than normal update times due to the Textures.xbt file being abnormally large.

There is no setting for that at the moment but if you download the skin from GitHub and extract the contents. Navigate to the skins media folder and replace it with the extracted one then delete the new_pvr/epg-genres folder.

+1 for an option to toggle these off. It's personal preference of course but I find coloured EPGs hideous. Just for convenience's sake, here's the current media folder from github, minus the epg genres folder in textures.xbt format:

Textures.xbt minus epg colours

Just overwrite the one in \AppData\Roaming\Kodi\addons\skin.aeon.nox.silvo\media

For the record, it wouldn't. A menu reset is the deleting of the .DATA.xml and .properties file from userdata (wiki)/addon_data/script.skinshortcuts - there's no way a skin update could cause this, unless the new version of the skin calls the scripts inbuilt reset function (which is what I presume this skin does but, as Mike said, the script will then ask for confirmation from the user before deleting these files.)

Maybe I'm missing it, but has no-one captured a debug log yet...?

Easily done. Go to system/appearance /file lists. Then turn off show parent folder.

Aeon Nox 5: SiLVO - popy - 2016-05-07

Also had a black screen on booth of my 16.1 windows clients running aeon nox. First client took 15 min plus until I killed kodi.exe. After launching kodi again main menu was reseted [DISAPPOINTED FACE]

After restoring a backup and started again, the update was applied successfully after 2 mins of black screen.

On my second client I moved the skin.aeon.nox.silvio folder out of the addons folder, started kodi so it's reverted to confluence, in settings menu I have selected again confluence! After closing kodi and moving back the aeon nox folder I have manually updated the skin in the kodi add-ons menu and finally switched back to aeon nox without any issues.

I would also suggest to remove the update from the repo and investigate the update issue.

Highly doubt there are issues severe enough where I need to pull this update. Wondering how many people with issues have those crap repos installed or use banned add-ons (wiki). If you make a "build" I really don't care, not my problem. Builds reference software updates and adding shitty add-ons or backgrounds doesn't make you a developer, it makes you a YouTube video watcher, a sheep who does what they read without learning anythng. I'm not sure where my hatred of "builds" came from but I can say it has a lot to do with the individuals who feel like providing something to others without any knowledge of how to support it and expect me to help, fix, or just add what they want for them. I honestly could care less if you pirate, stream, steal, make a build... Just don't come here complaining about things when shit goes wrong for you. If you think you can go forever without ever resetting up your menus or options when you're dealing with software related things, then you are living in a dream world.

If anybody is willing to offer up a log after an update to show that there is something wrong with either the skin shortcut script or my skin then please post about it, otherwise I can't really help you.

RE: Aeon Nox 5: SiLVO - flhthemi - 2016-05-08

If this is a dupe message please excuse it...I posted earlier but it doesn't seem to be showing....at any rate...

Mike, if you think this would help I have no problem doing it.

I have a backup of my entire kodi folder (prior to this update). If I rename or move the current folder and then copy the backup to my Android device I might be able to replicate the black screen I got on both my Android boxes. I don't think anything will be revealed because I think it's just that slower devices take longer to do what ever needs doing during the update. My screen was black for at least 5 minutes before I intervened and pressed the right mouse key (back button) on both these boxes. I have no crappy builds on anything I own. Would be glad to do it time is not a problem I'm retired Wink

Also maybe you missed it....but mouse clicks (left button) on Androids, do not work when trying to build a widget for a menu item. When you click on Widget 1 or 2 there is no response. OK (remote), Enter/Return on physical KB work. Once inside selecting widget options there are strange things too. Like being kicked back to the top level of the skin settings menu if using the mouse. No problems with windows installs.

Please ask in the thread from where you have the mod!!! (maybe you must download the mod new and copy it in the folder again)
