I wrote a fix for the problem you describe. It only tried to login and get a token when launching the root listing of the plugin. It will now always try to login if the login is enabled and the tokenfile doesn't exist. So if it is missing it will go ahead and grab one.
I haven't committed this yet. I am separating some of the ads, subtitle and playback code. It should be easier to understand and more modular. They will be easier to use in other things when I am finished.
The token file has an expiration that is checked on load and it will get a new one if expired.
