I have a challenge for the devs who don't think that this feature makes sense in XBMC: "Don't knock it 'til you've tried it." That is, pull up VLC and play The Daily Show or The Colbert Report at 1.1x or 1.2x. Even at 1.1x, you'll be save two minutes in a 22-minute file, and I don't think that you'll notice any weird audio issues. Your reaction may be one of the following:

1. I hated it. Why would anyone want that?
2. Not for me, but I can see how it would be useful to others.
3. I thought it was great! Let's get rolling on this feature in XBMC!

I'm confident that your reaction will be closer to #3 than #1, but even a #2 might spur you to take a look at implementing the feature.

get looking at the mythtv code and see how it's done. Make it work on XBMC. Submit to git.

I spent several minutes browsing through both codebases trying to figure out where I'd even start trying to add a feature like this. The learning curve is pretty steep. On the other hand, as seasoned XBMC developers, I'm sure you'd know right where to begin.

At this point, I'd guess that more time has been spent arguing over why this feature shouldn't be implemented than it would take someone who knew what they were doing to get a beta version of the change working.
