The "Play Movie/Open Seasons Instead Open Info" option is located under the "Video Information" settings. This means that this option refers to the content within the video info dialog. That means it refers to collections, more like this...

As for automatic trailers, there has been no option to open them in fullscreen for a long time. Why it sometimes opens in fullscreen, I really don't know what it could be. I didn't notice that, but I'll look into it a little more when I have time.
Problems with trailers in spotlight is a Kodi problem, not a skin problem. When you play any video, widget is refreshed and automatically switches to the next movie. Any widget that is set to random will have this problem.
Adding a shortcut to submenus works perfectly, you are doing something wrong.
