The 5GHz channels above 48, ie. 52+, are the DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) channels which can only be used if no other equipment (ie. radar) is using the same radio spectrum used by DFS, and it's the access point that must automatically move off the DFS channel if interference is detected hence it's a feature that not every access point vendor supports.

A DFS client will only transmit on a DFS channel if it is approved to do so by the access point - have you confirmed that your access point supports DFS? If it doesn't support DFS, or has a faulty implementation of DFS, then an Intel WiFi client won't transmit on a DFS channel.

Is the "hanging" you are seeing possibly "wait for network" (which will never connect), or Wake-on-LAN?

My router does support DFS. Im using DD WRT.
The NUC when booted to windows works fine so its just on LE.

I do have wait for network so yes its probably that.
