Your Unicode issue is here:

v = quote_plus(str(v))

Remove 'str'... for sanity avoid using 'str'.

BTW kudos on the release...

Thanks but urllib is not my module and that's not a line from my code - so I'm not quite sure where that's coming from as I don't have that issue with urllib.
