I've mentioned this in a separate thread, but for the sake of this request and a few others going unnoticed i'll try here and see how i go.
I know you're all very busy, so i'd like to just say a simple congratulations on the new skin, thanks and to keep up the good work.
1. The submenu:
the fact that the sub menu is now set aside as tiny icons (i can hardly make out what some icons are they're so small) in the top right corner of the homescreen are making the user experience and WAF pretty frustrating in my opinion... They're overshadowed by the large widgets, and just feel out of place. Almost like an afterthought. I know not everyone will agree with my opinion and that's fine, but hear me out.
The main menu is verticle, it's a list, it's simple and easy to understand.
when i first used the skin, i expected to simply click on a menu item and be presented with a submenu containing all the relevant functions for that item...
Instead, clicking movies took me to the movies library, "which is fine" i thought...
until i realized that the sub menu had become 'unimportant' little icons, lol.
Then i thought ''That's ok, i'll just go in the settings and change that" needless to say there was no option to do so...
So I was stuck with a vertical list menu, with a horizontal sub menu made up of icons.... Try explaining that to the wife and watch for the evil stare that you get in return.
If this is preferred by some, that is fine... But can we get an option to allow the submenu to be be shown "in-line" instead of being separate icons? see example below:
2. Customize home menu:
I know this has been mentioned countless times so i'm just gunna go stand in line.
But there really needs to be a way for the user to customise the home screen, even if that means simply being able to "shift" the location of certain items up or down and select what widgets they prefer to display in whatever order. For example, i like Live TV to be at the top of the list, as it's the most used item in the menu, it makes sense for it to be there. and i don't need to see "in progress" movies as a widget, it's not important to me. I'd like however to be able to see what's on at the cinemas, what's trending... all that sort of stuff.
It might not sound like much but it's small things like this transform the user experience from OK to great.
You only have to look at the mods appearing catering to this demand. It just seems silly to me to install kodi, have a great looking ui, but immediately look for an alternative or have to install a hacky moded version of the ui because the stock skin is lacking.
These are really two major things i think need to addressed that will make kodi very appealing out of the box.
# Aesthetically: You seemed to have ticked all the boxes.
# Navigationally: It's almost there... But we need to move away from the mix and match of horizontal and vertical lists and icons... Confluence was a navigational nightmare, i'd hate for this skin to follow any of those traits.
# Customisation: Seriously lacking. Although the user experience has to be somewhat "locked down" to ensure a solid overall experience out of the box, i feel that the majority the people using Kodi have come to expect the freedom of customizing their experience to some degree to suit their needs.
It's very easy to dismiss that and just say "use another skin" but there in lies the problem.
i feel people gravitate toward certain skins for the very reasons i mentioned above. Much better to cater for it to some degree out of the box, you only have to read a few pages of this thread to see that's what people want out of a skin...
otherwise I feel people will install kodi and spend countless hours looking for the user interface that ticks these boxes, once again... which I feel is exactly what most people's experience was when it came to confluence.
I know a lot of these features will probably come with time, and I certainly hope all these feature requests don't discourage any developers in any way.
Again,
Thanks and keep up the great work. Absolutely sh*ts all over confluence.
