Xbmcfreak 10.08 svn livecd's
erhnam Wrote:I'll remove the asound.conf from the next XBMCFreak livecd. See if that makes a difference. The asound.conf I'm providing is to set hdmi output as default output.

I have sound problems on my trailers, my movies are fine but the trailers either get no sound via hdmi, or I switch to analog and I get background sound only, no dialog at all, and coax/Optical gives me nothing as well.

all movies play just fine...

stoffmann Wrote:Hello, i installed Xbmcfreak LiveCD 10.08 svn32696 yesterday on my Zotac ION. So far everything seems to work fine, except one thing.
When i try to rewind during watching a movie it doesn't work. XBMC is allways doing a fast forward. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have this problem with certain video files on 9.10. I think it's mainly been with mkv files I made from DVDs. I did find that one of my buttons was mapped to some backward skip that takes it back a few seconds, that usually gets me by.

just a guess: quicktime HD mov trailers often come with AAC sound which most receivers are not able to decode (to test this, press "o" while playing and check which sound format is used)

since some revisions we have extended audio options where you could tell your XBMC to not stream AAC but downmix it

for the future: "some trailers" or "my movies" is not helpful at all, please provide mediainfo http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Support/Formats or at least the frigging container format next time

post 228 of this thread has my bug report

my receiver MIGHT not do the AAC thing so I might have to disable it in XBMC I'll try it when I get home from work.

from the looks of it YES, if I have AAC in XBMC enabled my recever currently does have have it enabled. I have to get into my "secrete" menu and enable it Smile

I have a Yamaha RX-V1800

and these two post indicate I should be able to enable AAC

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost....count=7699

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...st13836867

from my foggy memory I MIGHT have AAC checked in XBMC

stoffmann Wrote:I think the reason for the long boot is a known problem with ubuntu lucid.
The reason is that if you have enabled a floppy drive in bios, ubuntu searches for it and the timeout is very long.
There are two workarounds for this behaviour which are described here

Good luck

I found that file and was going to edit it but it seems that line is already in there. This is what is listed at the very end

# Boot speed optimization
blacklist floppy

Edit: Forgot to mention I didn't have the option in the bios on my Revo.

nope not the solution..

I enabled AAC in my receiver
I tried to play the trailer with AAc enabled in xbmc still same thing I toggle to coax/spdif still nothing change to analog still nothing

I turned off aac in xbmc and still nothing i get the same output

I have my output set to hdmi, I changed to to custom plughw:0,3 same thing

passthrough failed due to sample rate?

Yes I tried that (alsactl restore 0) but it doesn't work either.
Maybe there is another script executed after rc.local overwriting my settings?
Can anybody confirm this behavior?

I have no furhter idea to execute this automatically :confused2: Executing 'sudo alsactl restore 0' manually via putty after XBMC comes up works fine.

I have the 195.xxxx Nvidia drivers installed could this be why I am not getting the AAC audio being down mixed into 2 channel stereo?

its odd I get the background music and sounds being played on the MOV trailers but no vocals Sad

Never mind, just the apache server isn't configured.

Think I prefer it without, now I know the port numbers (which are NOT standard, took me ages to find the mt-daapd one!)

Jarny Wrote:Can anyone tell me where is the best place to restore the alsamixer settings.
I have problems with acoustic feedback because my line-in and mic-in are not muted in alsamixer. After I muted these both inputs the acoustic noise disappear. Then I store these setting with 'sudo alsactl store'
But when I reboot the system alsamixer does not restore these settings automaticly. So I put the line 'alsactl restore' in the file /etc/rc.local right before the line 'exit 0'. After rebooting the system alsamixer ignor my settings again. Sad When I login via putty and type 'alsactl restore' in the console it works.

How can I automatically execute this command?

regards
Jarny

I found a solution that works:
Using the -f option of alsactl instead of the standard implicit file /etc/asound.state
Example: sudo alsactl -f /etc/mysound.conf store
and than in /etc/rc.local I put the line alsactl -f /etc/mysound.conf restore

I dont know why it doesn't work without the -f option like in earlier versions but above is a working solution.

my step-dad got tired of waiting on the PPA to come back up, so we installed this live CD... during the install, it wouldnt pick up the wireless, so we just skipped it. How do you get wireless working on this? using a linksys USB- wusb54g v4. it worked fin in ubuntu 10.4 without having to install drives, so i know there are linux drivers for it
