[WIP] Metropolis skin

This is on the list for the next milestone (2.1.0 or whatever it will be).

I don't think anyone minds if people mod it. Just wanted to make sure it's understood that one can't take a modified file from one version and just replace the same file in another version. Makes our lives hard when we're providing tech support Tongue

+1

Thank you for working on this.

Those are all subsections of SYSTEM (the "Settings" window in XBMC). I don't think it allows skins to jump directly to subsections; at least, I don't see a way after browsing the wiki briefly.

Besides though, since they are technically subsections of the SYSTEM window, I don't think they should be submenu items of the "Settings" section of Metropolis' home screen.

System Information & System are inside settings window & also displayed on homescreen, I think they are just links & can be placed at a desired place.
Placing other Setting Window options such as appearance, Video, Music, etc also on the home screen in the submenu shortcuts of Settings will help users in browsing through them more conveniently. Rather than entering into the settings window & browse through the icon layout which is quite confusing. This can be a better option if possible..

Here's the thing: I'm all for adding shortcuts for things that take a lot of steps/keypresses to get to. But I really don't see how pressing Enter to go into the settings window is slower than pressing Right to go into a submenu -- they are both a single key press.

This seems to be your real issue. Can you clarify why you find the icon layout to be confusing? And is there something in the Settings window that you go to often enough to warrant cluttering up the System submenu? If there is, I might be able to add a shortcut for that particular item for you, which is IMHO a better solution.

Icon layout seems to be confusing as there are no names on the Icons so that user can quickly navigate to a desired location. I need to move into each icon so as to see what it refers to & into which option I want to go into..

It would be great if following shortcuts can be added to home screen in submenus:
1. Clean Library Option can be added in Videos Submenu. Also Video Settings Can be added there.
2. Music Settings can be added in Music Submenu.
3. In Settings Submenu, Appearance Shortcut can be added there.

I've added this already.

I can add these.

edit: Ah what the hell. There are only two left anyway (Network and Appearance), so I'll just go ahead and do this.

But still, may I ask why you want a direct link to Appearance? It seems to me that the #1 reason to go there is to change the skin. Do you really fiddle with fonts and themes often enough to make it that annoying to simply press Right, Enter, Right, Enter?

Hi all! A problem I've found in the latest updated (I'm using the GIT Hub version 1.9.5.xxx). The below issue does NOT happen with the older version 1.8.2.

I've noticed recently that new TV shows I've added to XBMC are no longer showing their banner art, instead showing a default "no banner image available" picture in its place.

However, if I go into "View TV Show Information" then it shows a squashed banner image in the poster field.

I've tried refreshing the show, choosing the banner image, and removing and re-adding the show all to no avail.

At the same time, I've noticed when adding new movies to the library, it scans and adds all the images correctly except the fanart is ALWAYS Zoolander. I have to manually pick the fanart for it to update it correctly.

Evidently this is related to an update recently... good luck and I wonder if anyone else has experienced it?

Do you mean 1.9.2? There never was a 1.8.2.

See this and this.

No idea, but not likely the skin's fault. Are you running a Frodo build or Eden?

Thanks a lot for making the changes.. I know I have disturbed you a lot, but trust me the skin is looking outstanding now..
You are right, #1 reason to go into appearance is to change the skin. I need to go often to there to change change between metropolis & amy other skin so as to view the changes if I do any in the files..

Any way thanks again..
One last thing I would request you is to add genre text at the bottom of the list in file view mode. I have done it for myself but that changes goes off with every skin update. I have to replace the file again & again. If you can do the same in your master file please.. I tell you what I have done:

Change Line 12 to-
<posy>55</posy>

& Added the following after Line 334:

<control type="label">
<posx>400</posx>
<posy>469</posy>
<width min="25" max="780">auto</width>
<height>30</height>
<align>left</align>
<font>METF_MediaDetailsSmall</font>
<textcolor>MediaDetailsYear</textcolor>
<label>$INFO[ListItem.Genre]</label>
<visible>!IsEmpty(ListItem.Genre) + [Container.Content(tvshows) | Container.Content(movies)]</visible>
</control>

You can customize it the way you feel better if you are willing to do it.

Thanks,

You haven't disturbed me. I just like to be thorough. As a programmer professionally for nearly 20 years now, I find that what the customer says they want and what they really want are frequently different things.

As is the case here. You really wanted an easy way to restart the skin:

You can bind a key to this. Most of us skin developers use F5 for the task. Additionally, if you enable Skin Debugging, it allows you to restart the skin from within the Shutdown Dialog (pressing 's' on the keyboard).

I've already explained why I don't want to do this.

What will happen, though, is we'll create a new view that will suit you better. I have already created an Issue for this on github. I can't say when it will happen, but it will eventually. I want a taller list view for movies myself anyway, so it's likely to be done sooner than later.

Ok, I will wait for it & I hope it comes soon..

Yes, my mistake, 1.9.2.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue... I have "prefer posters" enabled, but this means the poster is downloaded - not the banner? Or have I misunderstood? Refreshing / Removing and re-adding does not seem to find the banner image, only reverting to the older version of the skin shows the banner. This is only for recently added TV shows since using the last few versions off GIT Hub. Perhaps the new skin version has had a directory change somewhere?

I am using Eden.

Thanks for the help

A polite request please...

I have my TV Shows display only "unwatched" episodes so I only see my newest recordings. I currently use the list view. This displays how many unwatched episodes are available. Since it is a new TV season, I have lots of recordings and would like to change to the gallery view. What seems redundant is the episode count... example: 3 episodes, 3 unwatched, 2 episodes, 2 unwatched... etc. Is it possible to either list all episodes (total) and the unwatched count? Or remove one of the entries? When I show "All Videos", the count is correct.

I know this is really nitpicking... but hey, everything else I want is already done!

Thank you
