Okay, well that explains one problem. I get 8.8 on The Dark Knight rises, which is the rating on themoviedb, but on IMDb its 8.6. So that, in conjunction with missing top 250, was why I thought it scraped the rating from themoviedb.

You're right. I was looking at top 250 rating, which has a different calculation. Thx for clearing that up
