Integrated Video Game Emulators
(2013-03-14, 03:19)Atarian Wrote: Trying out the windows build, too. Loving it so far. How do I configure the gamepad in fceux-next? In openelec, you can hit alt+shift+1 in mednafen, and it brings up the option to map your buttons. I see no such option in fceux. Thanks for all the work on this branch!

It is all or nothing on mapping the buttons. Currently you have to remap them to the desired layout using keymaps.

- I had weird problems with buttons seeming to stick when browsing through xbmc. Don't know if this is xinput or something, but the nightly I run from 03-10 doesn't have it.

I know you mean well, and you broke the first 3 rules of fight club:

1. YOU READ BACKWARD PAST THE BUILD DATE looking for updates on your issue.

1 thing i noticed was that switching direction very quickly (left<-->right) can make the last pressed button stay pressed. (I can make megaman go right while pressing left) I can reproduce this with axis on my retropad and also xbox360 dpad.
N3MIS15 sticky buttons is fixed in 8e606d9a2f66d2fc9d123d494bf4dc5f05b7c27c

2. YOU POST A DEBUG LOG via <http://xbmclogs.com>

3. YOU POST A DEBUG LOG via <http://xbmclogs.com>

"they didn't seem to work". You clicked and XBMC crashed. You clicked and nothing happened. You clicked and instead your telephone rang. You went to click and Obi-Wan disarmed you with his lightsaber leaving you handless and mouseless. "didn't seem to work" can mean a lot of things, and without a debug log there's absolutely nothing I can do.

Sorry to rag, it comes with the job

I'm interested in getting a wider range of systems working, so if I haven't raged too hard just now i'd like to help get the .iso, .toc, .cue and .bin formats recognized

Sorry, I wasn't really actually looking for support, more just sharing my experience. I understand that without a debug log you are unable to do anything, and confess that I didn't read all 45 pages upthread and therefore missed the rules of fight club. I'm glad to hear that the sticky buttons is fixed in up to date builds. Smile

When I have some time to hack around with it a bit, I will try the various .toc/.iso/.cue/.bin and post a debug log of the experience to xbmclogs.com. After that, I'll do the same exercise with the rom browser to provide contrast.

I'm really excited about this branch, thanks again for all your hard work so far. Big Grin

(2013-03-12, 20:12)squarepusher Wrote: Anyway, regarding other things - I saw the proposed 'Kickstarter' by Ned Scott and while I appreciate the effort and don't want to shoot down any ideas from people who really like to help me (I am aware that my stance on 'donations' makes it hard to actually do any fundraising to begin with) - some of my teammembers really don't like the idea of a Kickstarter for reasons that it's impossible to set a max amount of money limit and you have to create all these garbage 'incentives and rewards'. We don't like to be at the receiving end of some bicker fest over a money pool and how the money gets split - don't see this as me making character judgements or anything - it's just that 'money' has its tempting sway over people that makes them do things they normally would not do.

Basically - I would like to ensure that our project doesn't turn to shit over money - it's all too easy for a project to 'die' due to quibbles over mony and we are not going to play that BS game - ever - I learned my lesson with Halsafar back in 2011 on that issue. So if the audience cares and if people truly want to see this project prosper - please help us out in this endeavor and not have us resort to Kickstarters or other questionable money grabs (something like Chipin would have worked out but unfortunately they're dead now).

In line with what Squarepusher is saying, it's a good thing to want to donate, but the currency of these projects is creativity and teamwork. The personal satisfaction from these projects is pretty exclusionary to money.

That being said, hardware and services are the building blocks for our work. Without them in place, the project stops short. I'd certainly like to see libretro ports for a iPhone, iPad, (insert platform here and I'm sure Squarepusher will make it happen Wink ). Any help toward the purchase of new hardware for Squarepusher is appreciated.

Cheers,
Garrett

I'm going to buy it tomorrow myself. So the Kickstarter is no longer necessary.
Will there be special considerations for RetroArch cores for emulators that deal with CD/disc-based media where the end-user doesn't need a Virtual CD app running on their system? For example, Sega CD (genplus) and PSX (mednafen)?

I've been going through the process of setting-up 18 ROM sets via RCB and the disc-based ROM sets are particularly tricky. They sometimes require BIOS downloads for the EMU (I believe the gens core requires 3 specific sega cd bios files in the system directory for Sega CD support, and they need to be manually renamed). In going through this exercise with setting-up the ROM sets, I have tried to resist installing a Virtual CD app and have somewhat succeeded. I realize that providing BIOS files is a no-no, so I guess I was wondering if the particular cores that require them will be supported or not.

Also, will there be support for archive ROM filetypes (i.e., .zip, .7z, .rar) or will the archives need to be extracted before importing into RetroPlayer? There are several ROM set "flavors" (i.e., No-Intro, TruRip, TOSEC, GoodSets, etc.) that can contain differing image filetypes. I know I have been having trouble using TruRip sets for disc-based platforms as the .zip images contain .img, .sub & .ccd files. Without a Virtual CD app, I can't really use this ROM set type. I tend to stick to the TOSEC sets as they are usually .bin/.cue, but as I understand it, the TOSEC format is dying-out.

Tested out mega drive and master system roms with Genesis Plus on my windows machine. Both performed perfectly unzipped, inside zip both just showed black screen.

Log: http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4506

Will do some more tests over the weekend. Any specific systems you want to target?

Mednafen-PSX on windows failed to load bin/cue combination. In file manager I had to right click .cue and goto play using->retroplayer->mednafen-psx. Opening the .cue directly, XBMC tried queueing the .bin file in a playlist.

Interesting log \n

EDIT: I tried putting the bios file in same dir and bin/cue to no avail.
From github page:
"To run this core, the "system directory" must be defined if running in RetroArch. Here, the PSX BIOSes must be placed, $sysdir/SCPH550{0,1,2} for Japanese, NA and EU regions respectively. Memory cards will also be saved to this system directory."

Any idea where sysdir is with retroplayer?

Try another emulator if possible. I had this issue with a couple of them. Or you can try compiling the emulators yourself.

Possibly ~/.xbmc/addons/gameclient.mednafen.psx/

or

on Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\gameclient.mednafen.psx

but if nothing else the log files does say "Fallback on using same dir as ROM for system directory later"
Tested all emulators on windows machine.

bNES: It may be broken in the repo, but it works fine for me.
bSNES (Balanced): Works.
FCEU-Next: Works.
Final Burn Alpha: Not sure how to get it to open a rom (zip).
Gambatte: Works.
Genesis Plus GX: Works (Genisis, Master System).
Genesis Plus GX: Sega CD failed (bios was in reccomended dir). http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4628
Mednafen PCE: Failed. http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4629
Mednafen PSX: Failed. http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4512
Mednefen Wonderswan: Failed. http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4630
Meteor GBA: Black screen. http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4632
QuickNES: noticable sound glitches and also some kind of sound distortion. (another rom failed) http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4633
Snes9X: Works.
Snes9X-Next: Works.
Stella: Works.
VBA-Next: Works.

If you want logs for the working emulators just let me know.

I tried that also, no luck.

Hi is there an Amstrad CPC464 emulator to be included/tested?
no
So I saw the next version of XBMC is titled "Gotham". Have there been discussions with Nate as to whether they are targeting retroplayer for inclusion in this release?
I hope so! Honestly why isn't it in the main branch now? It may not be complete but it's coming along and it would get focus from more developers. The progress has been pretty awesome!
Openelec Gotham, MCE remote(s), Intel i3 NUC, DVDs fed from unRAID cataloged by DVD Profiler. HD-DVD encoded with Handbrake to x.264. Yamaha receiver(s)

I don't think it will be merged in with the main branch until this PR is merged first: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/2230
