[CLOSED] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC
(2011-10-12, 22:43)Angelscry Wrote: ScummVM use game short names for it command line (http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/). You need to put all your games into the same folder and then indicate this folder path into ScummVM setup. On the other part, Advanced Launcher is only able to use filenames or game titles as command line arguments. So, to make Advanced Launcher works with ScummVM, you need to create some kind of "fake" files with game short names filenames. These "fake" files must have the same extension (like 1c) to be recognized by Advanced Launcher when you will perform a scan (http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=ScummVM)

I'm looking at getting this to work today, and despite reading all the relevant posts in this thread and wiki page, I can not get this right.

I have launched ScummVM from a terminal and the games launch fine. From there I also added my game collection. So to take one known working game as an example, here is what I've tried to do to get Full Throttle working:
  • * $ touch ~/games/scum/rom/ft/ft.1c
    * Add item using ALA
    * Attempts to scrape the fake file "ft" doesn't bring up the correct game title (obviously)
    * Attempts to launch the game, bring up a blank screen.

I think this is an ALA issue, as I know this does work; as mentioned above.

Ive mucking around with using a batch file to close xbmc, launch a standalone pc game then restart xbmc once the game is closed in Windows. Thanks to fr500 and Johnny4D Ive got a batch file that works very well.

Two VB scripts are needed:

Sleep.vbs
Code:
On error resume next
Wscript.Sleep(wscript.arguments(0)*1000)

LaunchXBMC.vbs
Code:
WScript.Sleep(1500)
On Error Resume Next
XBMCPath="""" & wscript.arguments(0) & """"
XBMCParams=wscript.arguments(1)

Dim objShell
Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.shell")
objShell.run XBMCPath & " " & XBMCParams

And the batch files. Lines 3 to 9 need to be edited to suit, Lines 8 + 9 point to the VB scripts and once changed can be left as. These are the two batch files I have used and tested so far.

Ok... So... The only thing that is different is the argument value. Try to replace :

Code:
-f "%romname%"

by

Code:
-f %romname%

I hope it will solve your problem.

Hi. I have ALA launching Steam games without having to load the game client, you might like to add this to your wiki. The game I tested was unplayable, but it was also unplayable launching form the Steam client, so not an ALA issue.

Here is the relevant launcher.xml section http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=18823

You can get the game ID either from the online store, select the game then check the ID in the URL or the appmanifest file. This works in the same way as ScummVM's fake file for adding items.

This page is also useful https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki...r_protocol you may be able to do something smarter Wink

There may be another way, but it is not one I know of. I now backup launcher.xml after editing.

This Advanced Launcher problem randomly occurs since Frodo release. It looks like if something was randomly deleteting the categories/launchers/items list from the memory. Most on the time it is not a big problem, because XBMC reload automatically this list each time you make an action. The only moment when it cause a real problem is when you are editing the categories/launchers/items list, becasue each time you edit something into Advanced Launcher, it was automatically saved into the launchers.xml file. So if the list was cleared when you save the launchers.xml file, you lost partially or completely the content of your launchers.xml file.

I have tried to found what was the cause of this problem... but I was not able to found it. Because it happen randomly (do not happen since more than one month on my system actually) and do not generate any entries into xbmc.log file. So it is really difficult to reproduce and diagnose.

BTW, since version 1.12.0, Advanced Launcher include auto-backup option, that AUTOMATICALLY make a backup of your launchers.xml file each time you edit it (http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=469). So if the problem occurs again, you do not have to rebuilt all your list launcher by launcher, just go into Advanced Launcher settings > Advanced > Backup options > Import XML file (restore backup) > Then select the file corresponding to you last modification. Files naming convention is : YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS-MILLISEC-launchers.xml. Then your categories/launchers/items list will be automatically restored.

That is really handy to know, thanks Smile

Additionally, I'm getting some strangeness with scraping art and game data. Is there a way to clear caches or any DB, so I can scrape again and know everything is clear.

That's XBMC itself which manage the thumbs and fanart images cache used by Advanced Launcher. Strangeness generally appears when you start copy/delete/replace images out of XBMC or Advanced Launcher. In that case, XBMC cache is not been updated and the cached images do not correspond to the images present on your hard drives. You generally have to wait a couple of days to have the XBMC cache automatically refreshed.

As far as I know, there is no option into XBMC to force to refresh the cache.

To avoid these cache problems, I strongly suggest you to manage your images only from Advanced Launcher and copy/delete/replace images on your hard drive only when they are not used anymore by XBMC or Advanced Launcher.
