Yes this is normal. An 'entry' means an entry in the EPG, i.e. a tv program. So its a count of how many episodes it has transferred to the client(s). I should probably rename this to something more obvious. Like 'program'?

I've tried deleting the TV.DB and EPG.DB files. That seems to disable the plug in, so I re-enable it from the XBMC UI, which kicks off a new download from the WMC server. Still no love when I go to the EPG though.

Strange thing is, I'm pretty sure it worked when I was first working with the WMC PVR setup (when we couldn't get the recordings to transfer over). I mostly watch recordings, but the EPG would be needed for WAF. Is there somewhere else that could have an old or corrupt dataset that's hanging the EPG?

Its worth doing the experiment to see if less episodes stop the epg from hanging, but really xbmc should be able to handle a huge number of episodes - its a bug if it can't.

If you 'disable' the channel in wmc, it will be hidden from xbmc too, and since its hidden its epg entries are not transferred. To block a channel in wmc just edit the channel and choose 'disable'.

Also, have you tried running xbmc in windows on on the server computer? does the epg hang there also?

I'm interested in looking into this. I've got ASUS' EB-1501, which is an Atom based machine with an NVIDIA ION HTMI output. TV comes in through a Silicon Dust network device. As long as the video is processed on the NVIDIA ION graphics processor, all is great because the Atom CPU is really slow with doing most basic tasks.

I'll probably wait until this channel changing lag is gone before I give this a go. If it is taking you Dual Core and greater folks 15-20 seconds to change a channel, I might have to take naps while waiting on the channel to change.

So Krusty, would a machine like mine need to run the Server WMC program? Nothing else connects to it. I record from there. I watch from there.

Depending on the video, it either is a black screen with a few flickering boxes along the top or the first rendered image in the stream with a few flickering boxes along the top. Here's an imgur album of what it looks like when tuning one of those channels.

In your pics, I see "Quicken Loans". Is that something from NBC, or XBMC? ...or this WMC backend

What I like, that no other solution is offering as yet (except one of the LINUX backend solutions), is the ability to start watching a program that is recording, jump adverts and when one catches up to Live TV continues to stream rather than just stop.....really good for the WAF.

That reminds me: I've always liked watching TV after I have a little buffer built up, so I can FFW past commercials.

What is irritating is when I want to change a channel (or have to because a recording is coming up on another channel) and I lose that buffer.

Back when I had DishNetwork, I would get the message, "Buffer will be lost and you will be taken to Live TV. Continue? [Yes] [No] [Cancel]"

If I click [Yes], I should go to Live TV, and that is what happens in WMC.

If I click [Cancel], the channel changing operation should be cancelled.

Clicking [No] is the same as clicking [Cancel], but it should not. What it should do is change the tuner over to the different channel while continuing to append the file stream from the new source. That would let me keep my buffer, and when that buffer ran to the end of the last channel, the new channel would start up. That, my friends, would be awesome!

If that worked, I could be watching the news that ends in 5 minutes at 6 PM, but I'm 20 minutes from the end. The game starts on another channel at 6 PM. Instead of losing my buffer, the tuner could switch over to the game. By clicking [No], I would continue to watch the news (FFWing through the commercials, of course) until the buffer got to the end of what it recorded at 6 PM, but the buffer would still have more data stream to read because it automatically continued on with the next channel.

[Something]- that I haven't implemented yet - would be the ability for the user to hit record as you watch a channel and have the episode recorded from the time you started watching, not just from the time record was pressed. I'm interested if people would think this is useful.

Again, I have not had DishNetwork for over 7 years (Over The Air broadcasts only), but Dish would give you that option when you pressed the Record button. It would ask, "Record from the beginning of the show? [OK] [Cancel]" ...or something like that.

Yes I mean freeze. I was watching a show last evening and just about probably every 13 mins the recorded show would freeze, I would have to wait a minute to get out of the show and resume it. Not sure if this is an XBMC thing or the WMC addon. I was watching it on my laptop and the recorded show was saved on my HTPC.

I got the server to run on win8 fairly easily. The remaining problem was that I was going to need to have an installer for win7 and a different one for win8. This has to do with the wmc dlls the server needs to link with. I thought unifying the installer would be easy, big mistake. I like coding, but installers just give me grief. The good news is another developer has come on board and he helped a lot. The 'unified' installer is working now. I want the other guy to look at it before I release it, and he is in a different time zone (so you know, its around the clock service now). Hopefully tomorrow morning it will be out for those who want to test win8.

On another note, my solar system is up and running! I am now in the electricity business.

If you are just watching a recorded tv program my addon isn't doing anything when its playing. It just points xbmc at the wtv file, and then gets out of the way. The rest is up to your machines and maybe more importantly your network. If you are trying to watch it wirelessly that might be the problem, a wtv file is a lot of data to xfer for real time viewing.

If I understand you right, I have thought about doing this too. The problem is channels can have different formats so appending a new format to the end of a different format is a problem. wtv is supposed to allow for format changes, I believe, so I assume wmc could maybe handle playing this, but I bet xbmc won't.

This is a new type of installer, so for those of you with an older version on their system, you will need to uninstall your old version before using this new one. Going forward though, uninstall first will not be necessary.

Yes, getting the client plugin working on Raspberry Pi is one of the next things we will focus on.

Im not sure about Android, the code for the client plugin is on a public repository (link to it in Krusty's first post) so if anybody has android dev skills and wanted to work on an android version that would be cool. Ultimately if we have just a few developers then will naturally try and focus where the biggest demand is, so this forum is important for establishing what people actually want. Focusing on things like channel change speed or a recording including everything since you started watching that channel, are popular features with multiple "votes" in here that would probably get looked at as a priority (whether they are possible or not is another matter!). Iguess on that note, if more people express interest in an android version it establishes dev priorities
