WMC as the backend - released
Hi

I'm really hoping this software is going to fill my extender needs. After been able to get away with a single media center for years i need to add a couple more and really hoping I can do it with XBMC

So far I've tried the client on a OS X machine and a windows client both suffere from the same problem and only a couple channels work. the channels which work keep changing.

I see error messages stating 'Stream timeout, unknown problem' and ' the channel cannot be played. Check the log for details'

The log can be found at http://pastebin.com/JKPQaaiY

I'm running a i3 with 8gb ram, a dual tuner blackgold DVB-T tuner and a Hauppauge USB DVB-T tuner

I appreciate any help you can give me as it seems to work really well when it does work

Thanks

Yes, the pi is trying to play the wtv directly. For rec tv wtv files, xbmc just hands a path to the file from the client. So looking at the excerpt of the log, the path your pi is seeing is:
smb:/username%40outlook.com:password@HTPC/d/Recorded TV/Some Girls_BBC THREE_2013_10_14_21_57_00.wt

This path won't work, it is supposed to start with "smb://". Assuming this is what my code generated, we (oops, I mean I) have a bug. Or did you hand edit the config file?

If you didn't hand edit it, please send me a link to the whole server log. To keep it simple, just start the server, try to play a wtv from your pi, after it fails post that log.

Silly all the fuss over two slashes vs one, isn't it?

But its important that he remove as many variables as possible, I have heard that the 'margo' build has video problems, so we should eliminate that before we try and diagnose what the problem is.

Not sure why you use the "i believe its its suggested" language, when its clear that playing the ts files you record on these stations have this stutter when played with xbmc and other players do not. Heard anything about the ticket?

sorry, didn't mean it to sound like i was questioning your analysis, more i don't have a clue and i wasn't even sure i was describing it correctly! the bug seems to have been accepted and its showing as future / pending

but i'll provide the logs later tonight, no hand editing of config.xml here
When the WMCServer is loaded automatically at startup, I get the following message>

RecService > failed to load EPG
Unrecoverable Error - Server will terminate

I am using build 1077.

Loading the server manually, it seems to load OK, but in the Pi, I get no EPG data showing on screen.

I guessing these are related problems...
(2013-10-15, 08:29)runee Wrote: I don't think it is the margro build... I actually installed that instead of the old to see if it fixed the stutter...

I tried pausing to let it buffer, also tried setting a 2 sec channelswitch delay - still same problem :/

My guess is its the problem that spaceboy was referring to. To find out, go to the 'debug' tab and turn off delete temporary files. Then start view a live stream on a stuttering channel for a couple of minutes, then stop it. Then go to the tempxbmc folder in your recorded tv folder, you should see two files there a wtv file and a ts file. Play both of these directly with xbmc and see if they stutter (you can also play them with wmp for comparison).

The server not starting sometimes at boot has been reported and I am going to try to address it in the version I am working on, to know for sure its the same problem you should post the server log when it fails on pastebin.com and put the link to it here.

When the server starts though I am not sure why your pi is not connecting. Make sure this is on the log too if you post it.

Thank you!

For what it's worth, I've tested a Pi, a Windows computer, and a Mac. All of them have worked flawlessly. Big Grin

Thanks, I needed one of those right about now.

This product seems like it is much closer, but I am having one issue with HD content. I am 99% sure it is on the XBMC side, but am not sure if it is the hardware I have or something else. My Win7 server is a 8 Core AMD with 8 gigs of RAM. MC is all set up and working with the cable cards. I have 4 first gen AppleTVs running crystalbuntu and one Pi running raspbmc. The ATV will play SD content fine, switch channels etc, but when I try to watch a HD channel the results are spotty. Most of the time the stream starts fine and plays, but if I try to change channels it freezes. About 50% of the time if I stop the stream first then start a new channel it will work, but it is very slow to stop the channel.

I have not fully tested the Pi, i am still waiting for the MPEG-2 license. Is the problem with the hardware in the appletv?

Try an experiment. If you are comfortable editing xml, find this file on the server:
C:\ProgramData\VDsoftware\ServerWMC\config.xml

find the field:
<Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>10000</Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>

and change it to (just a guess) 20000. Save the file, restart the server, and let me know what happens.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this. I tried the edit above and on the Crystalbuntu ATV it still failed. I am going to play with it some more but basically the stream starts, the video is choppy, like it is buffering but then locks up after about 30 seconds. The audio will pay until it locks up then the whole system freezes.

On the plus side I tested it on the PI and it worked great. I may just go that route and dump the ATVs and go with PIs.

One issue I ran into, and I am not sure why this happened. I played around with WMC and somehow messed up the channels. For some reason all of them would come up only as Copy Once, even though I know they are all Copy Freely (I work for my cable company). Eventually I was able to get it fixed by changing the channel the tuner was set to in the Ceton settings, then resetting the tuners with the Ceton software and running the install in WMC again. Anyone else ever run into this? I am just curious what I may have done. Thanks

Yes, In WMC on Desktop machine, I get the full EPG.

(BTW, I don't have xmbc on HPDesktop, only Windows Media Center)

Here is the log from this morning: http://pastebin.com/yCZUUy16

I noticed in the log that it shows:

Hi Hoops...
Yes, I deleted the epg database and it appeared to reload, but still no data.

The WMCServer does not show that any EPG data was sent.

Its called 'GetEntries' not GetEPG, and its queried on a channel by channel basis. You can look at your log and see that each of these queries to the wmc service returns no hits.

I have a thought, is the time and date on your pi correct?

Ahh.. I see where it says GetEntries, I also see where it says "no entries returned for ABCXYZ..."

When I start my pi, it says Jan 1 1970 12:00AM
even thought I changed the timezone to Central, US.

I have no idea how to change the time on my pi, and I am guessing that even if I can set it for right NOW, when I turn the pi off, it will forget where it is again, and start at 1/1/70

How do you set the time?
Assuming it's Raspbmc then ssh into the PI and it will walk you through setting time
If I have been of help, please add to my reputation as a way of saying thanks, it's free.

I noticed that the log says:
2013/10/16 15:15:12.943 no entries found for channel KXASDT2
2013/10/16 15:15:12.943 Finished request GetEntries in 0.00s

In my case, the KXASDT2 is channel 5.2 and it is listed on the channels screen as KXASDT2 (5.2) as set in the Channels Tab of the WMCServer.

Where is it looking for just KXASDT2?

Here is the xbmc.log -- http://pastebin.com/8iS76ETk
