WMC as the backend - released

also update on the ts stutter bug. its been confirmed as a bug in Gotham Alpha and now showing as milestone Future / Pending => 13.0. we're on 12.2 at the moment aren't we? sounds promising!

Hey Spaceboy,

I found a fix for the error that stops streams from starting on some avc/h264 broadcasts in the UK. It works on the files you sent me (it will be in the next release). If the xbmc team can fix the stuttery playback in the ts files, we should be good.

Are any the fixes for UK channels likely to effect SD BBC1? I seem to have everything working for live TV except BBC1 which wont play. Is this just me

Thanks
Hey all,

I started a thread dedicated specifically to the wiki pages associated with ServerWMC and pvr.wmc. Pro-active users and developers are encouraged to add it to their list of subscribed threads. If you have any suggestions for items needing to be added, updated, clarified, etc., please feel free to comment there. I want to keep this thread as dedicated as possible to the matters at hand.

I added some more descriptions and updated screenshots to reflect changes in 1078 today. Long way to go but I'm getting there...

The thread can be found here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=176174

I removed the delayed start-up software and am running build 1078 exclusively. So far, so good. I have not had any issues like I was experiencing before. Thank you sooo much for all of your hard work on this project. It really is greatly appreciated. I am very, very close to returning my STB and using this exclusively. (Which really means the wife has almost fully adopted it. lol)
The XBMC team, plug-in devs, skinners, etc. do this for us for FREE in their spare time because they want to. Think about that for a second before you start bitching...

Cool. And I really appreciate the work on the wiki pages.

Can't say for sure. If you want, restart the server and try to start this channel, after it fails put the server log on pastebin.com and put a link to it here and I'll take a look. Or wait for the new release, I hope to get it out tomorrow or the next day.

I can't say. The ones that don't play at all, hopefully is the bug I just fixed. I'm interested in the monochrome ones, if you can, save a short wtv from one of these like you did before, put the wtv file here:

Thanks for your great work on this.
I have one issue at the moment. I have one group of channels (SBS TV in Australia) that will not play on XBMC. When I try to watch SBS an error appears saying that the stream did not contain video. Every other channel works within XBMC.
I can watch SBS with no problems within WMC7. I can schedule a recording of SBS from within XBMC with no problem and watch the recording with no problem in XBMC.

Wierd, but annoying.
Here is my log file ***

Any help would be great Smile
Cheers!

I really need the log from the server side not from the xbmc side. So start the server, try to start this channel, after it fails go to the debug tab in the server and get the log file. Paste this log file into pastebin.com and put the link to it here.

As requested, Here is the latest log: http://www.xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=72840

Thanks Krustyreturns

I continued testing and ran XBMC on my WMC 7 machine running ServerWMC, channel changing was much quicker most of the time and BBC1 worked some of the time but not everytime. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just timing out one this channel but not on others.

I have a SSD in the WMC PC for the OS and 2TB sata disk for the storage. the recorded TV folder is on the 2TB SATA disk. Do you think I would see improvements by moving the temprec location to SSD?

Cheers

i'll do this tonight.

in response to the question g1jones raised i'm pretty sure bbc1 sd starts consistently for me. its only the HD channels that i see the problem with. but then 95% of my channels are HD so maybe its skewed testing
Huh This feels ridiculous to clarify without just testing it out, but . . . do server updates just install right over top of the old version?

Also, I don't recall if disabling the auto-adjust refresh rate fixed the 50Hz playback issue, but I do recall that auto refresh rate adjust and margro's build had issues link

Furthermore, KR is the default behavior of wmc.pvr supposed to leave the live tv files in the TempXBMC folder of Recorded TV?

Trying to increase the timeout to see if you get it more reliably might be a good thing to try. If you are comfortable editing xml data, edit the file:
C:\ProgramData\VDsoftware\ServerWMC\config.xml

look for the line:
<Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>10000</Timeout_WaitForTS_MS>

change the value 10000 (in milliseconds) to something larger. restart the server and see what happens.

To answer your other question, I don't believe switching to an ssd for these files would make any significant difference. This time is mostly set by the tuners and ms com calls.

You should be able install right over the old version of the server with all config data in tact.

The server controls whether files are left behind after a live stream completes (see debug tab, delete temp files). By default it will be deleting them. If you had a crash or something they may get left behind, but the next time you start the server they will get cleaned up.

The log says no data is being generated, but I can't see why. Can you see if you have the file

Thanks

I tried moving the RecordedTV location to the SSD and it made little or no difference as you said. I've also increased the timeout to 20000 which improved the channel starting but it's still not consistent, I'll try increasing it higher tonight.

What DVB-T tuners are others using in the UK I wonder if this is my bottleneck. I have a Blackgold 3620

Thanks for you help
Krustyreturns, I installed ServerWMC yesterday and I really like it! Thank you for this backend approach.
I unfortunately also had stutter issue using DVB-S2 HD channels (Canal Digitaal HD) using OpenELEC Generic 3.2.3.
All SD channels (either MPEG2 or h264) work great.
I hope XBMC will fix issue 14622 soon.

I do have a question though. All channels go in the TV category eventhough the last 8 channels on my server are radio channels.
Is it possible to sort the radio channels to the radio category?

Another request I have, could it be possible to make the "Close button" behaviour configurable on the server side?
I would love it to not Close the software but to hide in the systray when the closebutton is pressed (as it works with many server programs).

All-in-all I really love ServerWMC! Thanks again!

I looked at the file, but it is empty (a wtv file 512kb in size contains no data), that's why xbmc is reporting no video. I have seen this before with some channels from other users, but in their case there are encryption headers in the wtv file, your doesn't seem to have any (weird), but I assume it is the same problem (especially since you can watch this channel while it is recording). I have an idea of how to fix this, or at least have a workaround in the future, but unfortunately I don't have anything right now. Its on the todo list.

That's interesting about the radio channels getting mixed into the video channels. Can you post a server log and send me a link? What happens when you try to watch one of these channels? Try that before you send me the log so that I can see it in the log. In wmc do these channels show up in the tv channel list in the guide?

I have not implemented radio (hope to sometime) so moving them to the radio category wouldn't make sense, but they should at least be filtered out from the tv channels.

The sys-tray close box is a good option. In that mode, if you actually want to quit the server, how do you want to do it?
