I got this this NUC last week-end, having picked it up in Vermont because it's not available in Canada yet.
It initally played well enough (I'm a newbie to XBMC) but the bios is a mess. When you get in, the first thing it suggests is to update it over the internet, but when you click yes it send back an error saying there's an invalid board id or something. Not impressive.
I then upgraded to the new version, but since then I've lost the sound in Windows (says it can't recognize my tv's speakers) AND video had become extremely choppy in XBMC. I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers numerous times and there's been no improvement.
Does anyone know if it's safe to downgrade to the previous version?

hey guys, are there any decent reviews already? i was just about to buy the old celeron for xbmc purposes. however, the new one has better specs... but what interests me the most is whether its the best choice after all?! i would sleep much better after ordering it, if this machine runs 1080p in several codecs and xbmc with highend skins without any compromise. apparently, the old one didn't, which was reason enough for me to think about getting the i3 ivy or even hashwell instead. then, today i found out about the new one. this changes everything, doesn't it? benchmarks? experiences? reviews?

thanks for your answer. you are definitely right. that's actually what i thought. but still, i'd really like to have some experiences or reviews that proof me right in my decision to finally buy this thing. most of the articles i found are all about the specs, no real hands on and xbmc reviews so far.

Hi all, I managed to get some answers/sort-of answers to several questions:
"Does the graphics hardware contain the 23.976 fix in the Haswell NUCs? <== this one is the most asked.”
It should. The Bay Trail's GPU is based on Ivy Bridge, not Haswell (Haswell includes it) but the issue should have been resolved in the graphics driver. I'm trying to get a definitive answer on this one but this is what I have so far.
"It seems that CEC isn't supported on the other NUC's so far! Do you know anything about CEC support on this NUC?"
The Bay Trail NUC does not support HDMI CEC
"Will XBMC be able to stream and render 1080p content ?"
If the correct graphics driver is incorporated it should because the graphics in the Processor supports HDMI 1920 x1080 at 60P.
"Does Bay Trail model or Haswell based NUC have a built in support for HDMI-CEC?"
The Bay Trail NUC does not include the header, so no. Still waiting to hear on the Haswell models.
Still working on other answers.
Thanks.

With Windows 8.1 I had no install issues at all. I didn't have HDMI audio after install, but disabling Legacy Boot in the BIOS fixed that. So far I've run Windows 8.0 and 8.1, Linux Mint, and Openelec. All work great...nice and smooth. The only issue I'm having is that I can't pair any Bluetooth devices in openelec, but I'm using a beta build.
