[CLOSED] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC

You don't have any kind of installed add-on that could automatically "clean" XBMC?

Well, not that I know of anyway. Other than Advanced Launcher, enhancement packs for ACE and Aeon MQ5, Best of You Tube, Ted Talks, etc. I mainly have the defaults. This does include the XBMC updater.
Hello

I'm having trouble launching steam games.

I have followed the guide from this post: http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=530

I have installed pstools in the windows folder and created the launcher.bat with script from the post.
when I try to launch a game I get the message: "no suitable graphic card found" the message varies a bit from game to game.
I looked it up found that people have this problem when the games cache is corrupted, but verification went fine, and the game plays perfectly when launched manually from the link. After searching around I cant find anyone who has this problem in connection to advanced launcher.
I hope someone can help me with this
Good afternoon!

I love the way I've seen a lot of people set Advanced Launcher up for emulation but while I was trying to do the same, I hit a snag. A lot of my roms are duplicate files for different revisions or different territories. The file names are identical until the end where one will have (Beta) appended to the before the extension, for example. Is there a way to handle this in order to not display the duplicates initially? Like maybe you could select "1943 - The Battle of Midway" and then instead of going straight into the game, you would be given a choice of which of the following to play: 1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA), 1943 - The Battle of Midway (Japan) (Beta), or 1943 - The Battle of Valhalla (Japan)? Isn't that similar to how multi-disc games are handled?

Thanks for reading!

No there is no revision support into Advanced Launcher, only multi-disc support. If you want a revision support for your roms, it would be a best move to use a ROM manager like RCB (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=70115) than an applications launcher.
Thanks for the quick reply!

That's about what I had figured, so I will take a peek at RCB. However, would it just be possible to have these roms treated as a multi-disc game?

That mostly a graphic ressource conflict between XBMC and the started game that are both started at the same time. Normaly, using the "fullscreen window" mode rather than "true fullscreen" mode into XBMC video system settings moslty fix the problem. If not your last move is to use a script that will close XBMC before starting your steam game : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6.

It would be possible but you will have to rename your roms files. For example if you have :

1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA).zip
1943 - The Battle of Midway (Japan) (Beta),zip
1943 - The Battle of Valhalla (Japan).zip

Renaming them like this :

1943 - The Battle of Midway {1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA)}.cd1.zip
1943 - The Battle of Midway {1943 - The Battle of Midway (Japan) (Beta)}.cd2.zip
1943 - The Battle of Midway {1943 - The Battle of Valhalla (Japan)].cd3.zip

Will create only 1 game entry into advanced launcher named The Battle of Midway, then you will have 3 choices displayed to start the roms :

1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA)
1943 - The Battle of Midway (Japan) (Beta)
1943 - The Battle of Valhalla (Japan)

That's clearly not easy to setup I know. But remenber that Advanced Launcher is not loy dedicated to roms...

thanks for pointing me in the right direction, but would there be way to inkorporate the two ways of launching the games, where you have a main launcher.bat that handles the proces of closing xbmc, starting the game and relaunching xbmc ? if not I'll just make single launchers for all the games, thats the way I used to do it before I ran into this problem.
I used to use this script:
Code:
@echo off

REM pause XBMC and call for the game startup

pssuspend XBMC.exe

start steam://rungameid/236090

set process_1="DustAET.exe"
set ignore_result=INFO:

REM check if game has started
:1

set var=notrunning
for /f "usebackq" %%A in (`tasklist /nh /fi "imagename eq %process_1%"`) do if not %%A==%ignore_result% set var=running
echo variable %var%

if %var% == notrunning goto :1

REM check if game is still running

:2

set var=notrunning
for /f "usebackq" %%A in (`tasklist /nh /fi "imagename eq %process_1%"`) do if not %%A==%ignore_result% set var=running
echo variable %var%

if %var% == running goto :2

REM resume XBMC and close steam

if %var% == notrunning taskkill /F /IM steam.exe
pssuspend -r XBMC.exe
exit

I tried two ways of making it what I wanted, first I tried to modify the suspend script that I found, like this:
Code:
@echo off
pssuspend XBMC.exe
start "GAME" %1
set process_1=%2
set ignore_result=INFO:

:1
set var=notrunning
for /f "usebackq" %%A in (`tasklist /nh /fi "imagename eq %process_1%"`) do if not %%A==%ignore_result% set var=running
echo variable %var%
timeout 1
if %var% == notrunning goto :1

:2
set var=notrunning
for /f "usebackq" %%A in (`tasklist /nh /fi "imagename eq %process_1%"`) do if not %%A==%ignore_result% set var=running
echo variable %var%
timeout 1
if %var% == running goto :2

pssuspend -r XBMC.exe
that just made xbmc close and then nothing. so I tried creating a single launcher from the examples from the link you gave me and created this:
Code:
pskill -t XBMC.exe
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dust An Elysian Tail
DustAET.exe
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\"
start /max XBMC.exe
but that also just closed xbmc and then nothing at all.
I guess I must be using the pskill command wrong somehow.
because your work definiltly got me to use xbmc on a daily bases, I just wrote this message to say thanks...no problem...just THANKS
cheers
Hello,

I followed your instructions and it worked. I am using v2.2.7.

Thanks!
Hello

I came across this today. Never used XBMC before but exited as I've been looking for a nice front end for my emulators.

I am having this exact same issue: http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=687

When going through the Launcher setup, I see nothing in the Select the Platform prompt...

I am not ready to make a new user account on my desktop just yet to see if that will fix the issue.

Anybody else have this issue?
found the solution, to my problem
the removal of the -t in the pstool command
changed
Code:
pskill -t XBMC.exe
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dust An Elysian Tail
DustAET.exe
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\"
start /max XBMC.exe
to
Code:
pskill XBMC.exe
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dust An Elysian Tail
DustAET.exe
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\"
start /max XBMC.exe
that's what you get from not reading everything, sorry for the inconvenience.
Hello!
I am having problems with the addon. I downloaded it and installed it today, but I cannot launch any N64 games (I didn't try anything else yet). I get a script failed! addon.py. I've been following lifehacker tutorial.
here is my log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=138818 (I tried to launch Mario Kart 64)
Thanks a lot for your help! I can't wait to be able to use it!

Hi there

I got this error as well. Set the shortcut to "Run as Administrator" worked for me, but have issues with adding a launcher, as per my post above.
Thanks! Stupid Windows 8! I got it to work.
