WIP Discuss improvements for pvr section
I started working on displaying the EPG information in the OSD, I got it to work but my skinning skills suck too much for it be publishable.

Is this a limitation with how the current PVR code is laid out or is it a limitation with the skinning engine used in XBMC? I've been asking for this functionality for some time as it'll allows me to quickly navigate through my EPG of 600+ channels (why do the cable companys in the US require to have so many channels). Channel groups will work but the currrent skin I am using does not have the channel group views coded yet.

I think this is a basic function implemented in all industry cable boxes that is missing in XBMC

@Talguy: Couldn't agree with you more. Being able to quickly navigate to a channel in the EPG is a key usability function in all cable boxes and other PVR front-ends I've tried out (like MediaPortal) but is missing from XBMC. I'm personally trying to ditch my cable boxes all together and move to an XBMC-based. However, having a channel list of 500+ items makes it a bear to navigate thru within XBMC using only the page up/down and arrow keys.

it's an unimplemented feature.

do you mean displaying the current epg/movie plot in the video osd, like other skins do?

Is there a plan to implement this feature in the future? I'd be interested to know how we could get it prioritized.

it would be great if you could create an issue ( http://trac.xbmc.org ), so it is not lost.

@negge
maybe you can provide your work here and maybe someone with better skinning skills will jump in and can do the rest?

I guess it is time to dust off my old c++ skills and learn how to work with an open source project.

Edit: I also noticed last night that if I hit the guide button on my remote of the 'e' key on my keyboard while I have a video play in fullscreen mode the EPG will not appear. if I have video play in the background while navigating my library and I hit either of those buttons the EPG will be displayed.

I always use the OSD to switch channels or see whats currently playing, but it would be great it doesn't change channels automatically when i zap through the OSD menu. - I just want to switch channels when I press OK (like most hardwaretuners or DVBViewer do)

Is this possible?

@NatroN check PVR settings, there you can configure your desired behavior (either using a delay or only switch on pressing "select/enter")

Thats not quite true.

The switch on pressing select/enter only works when manually entering numeric keys.

The delay works, but you like NatroN I would prefer it was on selecting the channel that it changed.
