Hey Everyone,
Firstly, thank you very much to dhead for his efforts on this.
I have a Vodoke Playstaq device that I got free with my broadband subscription. It's one of these (
http://en.ocworkbench.com/tech/m1-mibox-...ox-review/) and I can't imagine it being very popular. After playing around with XBMC for Android, I decided to look at how it would work under XBMC for linux under M3, I found this thread and after some research I found that some of the devices listed under the Mygica A11 buld have similar hardware to the Playstaq. A few weeks ago I decide to flash it with the Mygica A11 build (using the built in upgrade option) and I now have it running quite solidly for around 2 weeks.
Things I have noticed:
1) CPU usage was at 100% from boot. After much trial and error, the culprit was the menu. If I disabled all the unnecessary items I didn't need it only uses up what looks like 20-40% vs 100% before. I have max 5 menu items and it works for me.
2) I am running the Aeon Nox Minimalistic theme. It reports a varied 20-40 fps. It runs a bit faster than the default confluence theme that comes with the build.
3) Browsing Series and Movies can be quite sluggish (but workable) when you have a large collection and have the cover wall enabled with fanart as background.
4) Wireless works fine but after extended use it was unable to play remotely, although I was able to get to my network np. Simple restart fixes this. No issues with Wifi passwords.
5) 1080p output works 100%
6) 1080p playback is good - I have managed to play with no delay, 8 / 10 different type of files that I tried. 2 had delay, but I am not 100% sure why they are so different. I can run them through G-Spot and find out why.
I have 3 questions and I am hoping somebody can help me here:
a) I am unsure how to upgrade to the next build, if there is ever a new one? I could speak to my ISP and see if they can give me a recovery image so that I can restore Android and upgrade to Linux again, but I would prefer not to. Any suggestions here?
b) I would like to add Mplayer as an external player for the files that I am unable to play / play with A/V lag using DVDPlayer, but I am not sure how to do this on Linux through SSH (I have seen some guides online but they are for Raspberry Pi or from much earlier builds of XBMC). Any suggestions?
c) The default remote that comes with the device has some issues with the buttons under this build (back is esc, home is picture add-ons). Is there a simple way to assign them to different options?
Anyway, thanks again to dhead and thanks to all the rest of the help from this thread.
