... Settings apply to low power os's (android, atv, ios, raspberry). Optimized pretty much means I disabled all the goodies to help PTVL run smoothly on those devices. Settings will be enforced no matter what you select, I included a override under "Misc" settings that will let you run your own configurations....And Bob's your uncle!

What is disable?
  • Enhanced Guide Data (AKA Find Missing Data), Disabled
    Media Limit = 50
    Art Service, Disabled
    Show Season/Episode as S00E00, Disabled
    Show Extra EPG Info, Disabled
    Use Unaltered Channel Bug, True
    Sync XMLTV Service, Disabled
    XMLTV Folder Location, None*
    Sickbeard/CouchPotato, Disabled
* (XMLTV Parsing is slow because low power systems can't handle heavy regex parsing, Nulling the folder will allow PTVL to build LiveTV Channel just without EPG data).

Losing EPG? Oh man.
I am fine with loosing everything else but not so sure about epg. I would rather have an option to update epg anytime of my choosing. Like a scheduler or something. That way I can update my xml file once a week and schedule pseudo to update the epg every sunday morning at 4:30 AM when it isn't being used. It can take two decades to update and I would not care since I most likely would be sleeping or up feeding the baby and dreaming about sleep . Big Grin

If PTVL's, XML EPG, are breaks down, it kind of alienates all the low end computers users, the application was designed for. I'd like to see the whole of XBMC / OpenELEC, running on x86 thin clients. We can't all dedicate high end core systems, just to watch TV.
So, if we're going to lose EPG, it likely will be a short absents.

Not sure I understand... what application was designed for Low end computers? because PTVL wasn't... and XBMC as well...

I think the two of you (breezytm and yourself ) clearly are not reading my post fully! (R.I.F) The EPG change only applies to LiveTV and you must be missing "I included a override under "Misc" settings that will let you run your own configurations....And Bob's your uncle!"

So nothing is lost!... so relax Smile

BTW It cracks me up that low power htpc user complain about this kinda stuff... When it's Thanksgiving do you cook your turkey with a bic lighter? and complain when it's not cooked?

Try this one

Also, the first time you try to generate the settings file, it won't work. Just close out the application, and try it again, and it should.

Thanks

This is a good time to ask, is the manager available in a version that works under Linux?

Also pondering this. And wondering about a MacOS X port as well.

Worse case scenario might be to make a way to do the generation remotely. I'd hate to have to put together an 'idiot box' (I have no use for Windows these days and have not bothered with the last four or five releases) but having a remote functionality might make that a way forward. At the very least I can dig up my old disc of XP for use in a virtual machine and use that to administer the Manager on my MacBook and my Linux desktop connected to the TV.

I think you'll find there are more and more Linux (if not Mac) users here than most parts because of the crossplatform capabilities of XBMC and because of projects like OpenELEC which makes it easier and easier to drop in a box with XBMC and forget about it. In the somewhat near future I expect to see more and more Android users because of the combination of price and being able to drop in a small box for access to media. It'd be great of we could see a way to use the app as well.

PS: Lunatixz, I haven't had time to test trailers out on the development release on my MacBook just yet. Been busy lately with work and just wanting to relax at the end of the day. Will test it when I have some time. Will also look at updating the Linux box on the TV when I have time and testing it out there as well.

PPS: iOS fans I did not forget you; I simply see the iOS port dying off as it appears no jailbreak is possible for the AppleTV 3 and Android has moved in to fill the void. No sense in tilting at windmills after all.

I did read what you wrote. I just like using applications among everything else how they were intended to be used. You want to disable these features because you don't want to deal with them in low power devices. I don't want to enable any of them if you, the person who wrote them, won't be supporting them for my device. It would only make my life complicated trying to do the impossible and make your life complicated because clearly you don't want to be bothered with them. I am only asking for you to reconsider disabling epg for low power devices. I highly doubt you will but it doesn't hurt to ask, right? But if you, when I have an epg question or complain I don't have to hear remarks like "that's exactly why it is disabled for your device by default". If you reconsider and leave it enabled that means you'll support it.

I am a vegetarian. Doesn't apply to me so no comment Big Grin
Consider the listed features premium. They require higher end hardware. They are so there to enable against the add-on developers recommendation. You want higher end features get equipment with w bit more power. You can manually override this option. The less time he has to respond to repetitive complaints and questions the more time he can devote to furthering development of this add-on.

You're missing the point... I'm not dropping "support" for those feature.

they will be disabled for low power systems and will include a override. Its not because i just feel like it. They require more resources then the low power system can provide....

You act like there is some magic code i could write... But just dont feel like it... Sounds foolish.

OK boys let's stop the fighting, and remember this is a community where we should be working together and supporting each other while trying to make this the best forum and PTVL the best addon for KODI. Enough with the non issues and let's deal with the real issues. Could someone please tell me how to setup the new PTVL Manager, and Luna did you have a chance to look at my logs from today. thanks alot for any help given from anyone. Wink
I am not missing the point. I think you are missing my point. I never said you were suspending support for the features. What I was saying is this. If I post a comment and say "hey Luna, my epg are loading really slow on my fire tv" and everyone who are using their fast htpc replied back and say "no issue here. great job on the latest from github Luna btw." Are you going to be like "hey breezy send me some log let me take a look and spend a couple of my precious hours working on this even though I done suggested not to use it for low power devices" or would you say "[not a bug on my end, lol...]" I understand it was sarcasm but that's where I was coming from.

But hey ignore my previous comments. I am sure you have far better things to do then to respond to repetitive complaints and questions when you can spend that time devoting to furthering development of this add-on.

I think we are having a major miscommunication here... How about u just wait for the release... Then see how it affects you.

Time to dig out the silk panties for everybody....ha!

But seriously tho, it would be nice if you could work up a relative "system requirements" checklist, tho. Down the road. I only say that because folks are already used to playing Lo-res games on Lo-end hardware. No complaints there. So if you can't optimize the code to require less cpu or ram, perhaps a requirements list could be a good middle-ground?

Just my 2 cents as a mediator..

Any modern ( from the last ten years ) pc or mac with minimum of 4gb ram will be great!

Any RaspberryPi or any other type of arm device usually barely has enough processing power to handle xbmc let alone this plugin.

Thats not to say you can't get PTVL to run smoothly on those devices... it just requires you to disable some features... Which is why I'm enforcing disabling those features.
