Hi Everyone...I need some help.

I followed the steps on page 1 to dual boot ChromeOS and OpenElec on as Asus Chromebox. Everything has worked great for a few days, but now soon as I boot into OpenElec, after 5 seconds the screen goes black..then the openelec logo comes back on...and this is a constant loop, every 5 seconds. It appears to be re-loading the openelec every 5 seconds. The only change that was made, was Updates were set to Automatic vs Manual.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this? Thanks!

I don't have a keyboard but I can access the AsusBOX through ssh while running OpenELEC.

I want to remove dual boot since I never use ChromeOS, and the extra space might come handy for Kodi. Can I just run the script from OpenELEC and install the standalone version (OpenELEC\Kodi) or do I need to boot into ChromeOS and install it from there? (the issue here is since I don't have keyboard, I can't hit CTRL+D to change boot)

When I saw it didn't work I switched to Ctrl + Alt + F7, I saw "Could not resolved archive.ubuntu.com".

Any suggestions?

the first post contains the answers you are looking for: the script doesn't run in OpenELEC, and the separate standalone firmware updater is only for use after you've flashed the standalone firmware (though some recent changes may have made this work, but it's definitely not supported).

@matt or anything else who can help me... I took the original SSD an put it in an adapter so I can use it to install OpenELEC on a different pc, but it says it's read only... I did have it running in my Chromebox dual booting but then I upgraded the ssd for a full Ubuntu install. Maybe the adapter is defective?
Any ideas?

I installed a standalone OpenELEC a week ago. Such a pleasure to pass the old sluggish android box on to another family member.

Your script went fine but I ran into the overscan problem during install and I could not see about the first 4 or 5 characters at the left margin during install.

I've got an old 50" Panasonic Plasma Viera and I messed around with settings to try and eliminate the overscan but never found success. The biggest trouble came during selection process for USB back-up or write of OpenELEC. I could not see the number the script was expecting. I ended up moving the USB to a different location and hit a 1 and that got things going. I did not have a different spare monitor to use.

I guess there is not a good way to have your script tab about 5 characters to the right... I may build a few more Chomeboxes for less technically inclined buddies, so I'm not looking forward to the overscan problem again.

I don't think there's any way to compensate for overscan in ChromeOS, but it's possible I could shift the script text some. Though as long as you only have one USB stick connected at a time, it will (should) always be #1 in the list.

re-install Ubuntu using the script, ensuring you have an internet connection beforehand

Thanks for the reply. Are the steps listed below the only ones I need to follow or do I need to do other steps?

Kodi can be installed via OpenELEC or Ubuntu+Kodi, in either a standalone or dual boot configuration. This is accomplished via the ChromeBox E-Z Setup script, which must be run (at least initially) from ChromeOS.

To run the ChromeBox E-Z Setup script, perform the following steps:

Power on and boot to ChromeOS. Do not log in, but ensure a network connection is established.
Hit CTRL-ALT-F2 to open command prompt
Login with user chronos (no password required)
Download and run the ChromeBox setup script with the commands:

curl -L -O http://goo.gl/3Tfu5W
sudo bash 3Tfu5W

Hello again,

I have just changed my setup to dual booting Ubuntu and Chrome, everything seems to be running great on Uubuntu apart from Kodi not playing my movies at 1080p 24 and not having any HD sound or options .

Is there something else i need to do to enable these features?

I will look into that, i don't think intels latest graphics installer works with Ubuntu 14.10.....maybe that's why i can't get the 24hz option?

The usual options are not there to be selected

DTS, AC3....etc.... passthrough with DTS HD, True HD

And my desktop is 1080 60hz....looking for the 24hz option so films are smoother through Kodi

ensure settings are on expert mode.

also, there's no 24p option, the option is 'Adjust display refresh rate to match video' under Settings/Video/Playback

Yes, my settings are on expert. I am quite familiar now with Kodi, usually when my settings don't show up first time is because my amp is switched off.

When my amp is on and i boot up Kodi using OpenElec all sound options show up.

I have mono vision and can see a lot of judder on 60hz....24hz is smooth to my "eye"....i can see out of both eyes but only one at a time because of surgery i had as a kid.

I would like to dual boot with OpenElec and Linux but don't know how to do it.

I want to use this as my main PC and having a torrent client is my main concern.
