No - don't do that. That will render passthrough unusuable. Your TV lies about its refreshrates. DISPLAY=:0 /usr/lib/kodi/kodi-xrandr | pastebinit tells what it really supports.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

I did a complete reinstall and now my HDMI out does not work. I can boot into openelec just fine. But if I plug in a HDMI cable and boot into openelec, it gives some squiggly lines on the TV and the laptop then both go blank. I have to hold the power button down to do a hard reset. I initially had the storage partition set to 1 GB, I then did another restore and changed it to 2 GB.Any suggestions on what is causing this issue?

no idea, but since you're using a ChromeBook (vs ChromeBox) there's no a whole lot I can do for you. Best thing I can suggest is to restore the factory legacy bios, which contains the video bios as well, and might be responsible for the issues you are having.

Well I am a huge dumb ass. I was using your script thinking the update option on the menu would allow me to specify what firmware file I wanted to use. It didn't and it flashed a chromebox firmware. Of course now there is no display, the USB drives do not have a light on, I can't ping the device, etc. Is there any hope for me? I looked up some info but spending $50 on a bus pirate and pomona test clip to unbrick a $200 chromebook does not seem worth it. Any suggestions? Is there some magic way to flash my rom file onto the chromebook?

Already looked at it. Like I said. My chromebook costs $200. Paying 25% of the cost to repair it does not seem worth it to me. It would be cheaper to send it back under warranty than buying those tools.

the firmware for your ChromeBook and the ChromeBoxes is different enough that your system is likely inoperative, even blindly. You could test that by trying to blindly boot OpenELEC and then SSH in. If that works, then you can flash a working firmware back on. If not, you'll need to use an external programmer.

For those running Ubuntu, upcoming 3.18.4 has the gpu hang fix. So only Ubuntu mainline installation is needed then: http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/...c28fd38366

Please note that the information comes from my receiver, which should passthrough 24p fine because the Mede8er was able to use that output format. I'm using a Lindy EDID emulator between the Chromebox and the receiver due to HDMI handshake issues, but the EDID data was cloned from the receiver when I installed the device.

well, the EDID data says only 50/59.94/60Hz at 1080p, so that's what the ChromeBox is going to support. The fact that another device ignored the EDID data isn't particularly relevant here. I would be curious to see the EDID data returned by your TV directly without any emulator inline.

Fortunately the Chromebox is lightning fast to boot, here's what it shows when it's connected to my TV: http://sprunge.us/OQcg

It looks like I should actually try cloning the TV EDID data and see what happens.
