[OLD/CLOSED] PseudoTV Live - Set-Top box solution
hey luna,

just started using the sharing option, works great!
it's awsome to start one of the clients and all the epg is there in seconds.
i installed a new server that one of his jobs is the pstl master,

my problem is that i want it to keep updating channels and epg but i dont want it to play videos,
the only option i see is to run pstl everyday or so on the master, let it build everything and stop it when the video start, tried also the auto sleep, didnt worked well...

any other ideas?

thanks

I think set top mode is designed for 24/7 PTVL use. Basically it updates bit by bit as PTVL runs. I gather that hasamba seems to want something that runs more like a server or background service.

That said, if he did want to run PTVL 24/7 he could use set top mode. If he doesn't want it to play videos constantly due to bandwidth he can set it to always start of a specific channel that only contains local content.
Also, does anyone know if there is a limit on how long bumpers can be? I'm trying to create channels that have their own individual commercials or bumpers. So I disabled commercials and started placing the commercial files into individual bumper folders. However, it only seems to be playing the shorter videos.

Is there any better way to do what I'm looking for? For example, I don't want beer commercials on my cartoon channels, and I don't want toy commercials on my sports channels, etc.

So it is your understanding that if set top mode is enabled and you do not have PTVL up on the screen that the videos are still playing in the background? I was thinking it meant that the channels would continue to update and refresh at the frequency set but that the videos were not actually playing but now I am not sure.
Sorry for another silly question, but I can't seem to find it answered elsewhere, is there a way to force channels made with playlists to show the channel logo instead of show fanart in the EPG screen? If so, how do you do it? Thanks guys.

The way I understand it (and I stand to be corrected) is that without set top mode they only refresh when PTVL is first started. With set top mode they can refresh in a more piecemeal manner while PTVL is running. The idea being that it will be like you set top box where it will update as it goes rather than needing to turn it off and back on again to refresh the EPG.

Basically PTVL has to be running for set top mode to be useful. That means that unless you manually pause it the video will be playing on whatever channel is selected at any given time.

100% Correct Smile

The project objective is to replace your cable box... At this point i'm not interested in building up "off and on" features. Users can run this plugin casually, but it's designed to run all the time...

If you are a casual users and don't like waiting for PTVL to load each time, just turn of "Automatic" channel reset, and choose something longer, every week? Also turn on background updating.

Hey Luna, I just discovered the PSTVL Subreddit, I figured I would post something about it here, since it's not really mentioned elsewhere and others might find that format a bit easier on the eyes Might be worth it to link the subreddit in your OP.

the exact opposite, im not a casual user, im a heavy one Smile
thats why i want all my home units to work in sync,
my xmbc machines (living room, kids computer, bedroom android...) are closed during daytime, after the kids coming back from school or i come back from work we start them up, my server is up 24/7, i want my server to do all the caching/updating and the other will read from it, and its working great!
my only problem is that the server wasnt meant to run videos, he doesnt have video card or monitor attached, but it has a built in speaker that woke me up after starting PSTL videos Smile,

my solution is to run it manually every day or two and configure all the slaves to uptate on a week basis with background updating.

thanks anyway luna
You do realize this is alpha software right?

I was thinking about doing the same. One solution is setting PTVL to auto shut down after an hour or so. Then using another plugin like schedular to auto run PTVL every x hours/days. If you run PTVL in set top box on the server box it wont update other plugins ect so that is a decent enough way to do it. Also you would need to create a channel 999 or something, and on the PTVL server have it set to start on channel 999, then make channel 999 a looping youtube video of something, maybe a fireplace/fishtank. Or a local video file, as to not hammer your bandwith or use up a tv tuner.
