Linux ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21]

For sure... When I first found the problem I unchecked hardware acceleration for VC1 and was happy as a clown for a while. That does totally solve the problem. That's the default setting also.

But, Some VC1 titles I have can't seem to keep up with software decoding and they get choppy. If I could optimize that then I'm all set and happy as a clown again.

Two titles I noticed so far that seem to need VC1 hardware are The Dark Knight and Fast Times at Ridgemont High... maybe those are just very high bit rate. Maybe re-endoding some or just re-encoding all my VC1 titles would work... I don't really care how I find a way around the problem so long as I do.

For those you can set: Video Decoding Method: Software then these VC-1 files will be Multi threaded.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

(I realize the wiki says it has an AC wifi module, which is different. I was talking about the actual build, not the specs.)

"actual build"?

I picked up a Chromebox to install Kodi on, everything going swimmingly, backed up the stock firmware, etc. Downloaded OpenELEC to my USB stick which is an ADATA USB3.0 stick and now when I reboot the Chromebox in order to install OpenELEC it only gives me "Booting from Hard Disk..." meaning it's not seeing the USB 3.0 stick. I read earlier in the thread that people were using older USB sticks to resolve the issue. Is there any other work around? I don't have a USB 2.0 stick so that's not an option. I do have a USB hard drive but that doesn't appear to be recognized either.

This is for a full install, not a dual boot install.

Thanks, I will try it. Today I watched stuff for a few hours on my Chromebox and forgot all about this issue... I do enjoy it quite a lot and having some fun really helps with my mood.. ha ha.

Asus Chromebox here but if the Dell has both memory slots then I like how it's case is more rounded.

Oh I know... just wasn't sure about the Dell but I looked it up.... Good to know if I get another in time.

I have 8GB in mine.... maybe a waste or something but I had bought that memory for another system I no longer use and had it just available.

My hp chromebox only recognise an usb stick (only tried with one though, and its a usb2 stick) in the lower usb slot at the back for some reason. Try using all the slots. If not you could also try a usb hub inbetween (i havent tested that though)

Thanks for keeping all this up to date, Matt. We've now got five Chromeboxes running OpenELEC, and the one still that is running Linux Mint. Smile

I ended up digging up an old USB thumb drive that my wife had in her purse and that worked. I'm up and rolling except I can't seem to enable wireless on the Chromebox.

EDIT - Found it under the OpenELEC menus. That wasn't available using the Nox skin so I couldn't find it. Went back to Confluence and it was there.

On other skins openelec settings are in among addons.

I meant that cosmetically they look truly identical. Not just same specs, but the exact same device branded Dell rather than Asus.

I bought 2 hp cb with 4 gigs of ram for only 132usd. And thats including 25% VAT. In Norway, worlds most expensive country. But normally they are at least 250usd, just so happened to be a good price this week in one of the electronic chains. I even sold off my mac minis since they were overkill for the purpose. Will keep me occupied until the skylake chromeboxes arriveSmile
