WIP Experimental simple deinterlacing
I also notice the small shaking with both BOBs.

Any known issues with 1080 playback?

I have a MK802 V5 running the 2/5 Kodi 15 build.

I will try the 14.1 build of SPMC and see if that helps... http://spmc.semperpax.com/

SPMC 14.1 de-interlacing is not as good as what is in the Kodi 15 alpha.... I am seeing the dithering/interlacing. Hardware Accl on and all 3 libs selected for acceleration.

Is this the thread you want to carry SPMC 14.1 interlacing issues in or should there be a new one?

On a rockchip, deinterlacing has no effect if rkstf is enabled...

Thanks.... disabled that and it is all better now. Big Grin

Now need to find a 1080 recording to see if it is better on SPMC....

On 1080 recordings If I turn off acceleration on libstagefright then the playback is smoother....but quality (color, contrast, etc.) is not as good.

On my FireTV it's exactly the same as with Kodi v15 alpha. But you have to deactivate MediaCodec Acceleration and only leave Libstragefright selected. With Mediacodec the Shaking is REALLY bad. With Libstragefright it's the same as with Kodi v15 alpha - a tiny little bit, but acceptable.

Isn't there a way to implement a different way for Deinterlacing, like Blend? If I turn off all Hardware Acceleration and use Software Blend, the Deinterlacing looks good - but the Video is running in SloMo. Sad

Please test with http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/andr...bi-v7a.apk for the mediacodec shacking

Hi!

I tested the version on Amazon Fire TV.
With Libstagefright it's exactly the same as earlier. With Mediacodec almost every channel is being playbacked only in SloMo (like with all regular Kodi versions before - only on SPMC it's working - dunno why!). The only (German) 1080i HD channel that worked was "RTL HD". Watching this channel and activated Bob (Inverted) Deinterlacer, the amount of shaking is exactly the same as with Libstagefright. It's VERY minimal - but you see it. And the picture quality is worse than without deinterlacing. Using it only makes sense if you watch sports (football) or something that has strong interlacing effects.

On my MK802 V5 with both codecs set to hardware acceleration the 1080 videos now look very good.

Watching a while now and do see a sporadic choppy split second encounter... not long... but happen enough in 1/2 hour show that it is noticeable that it is happening.

Reminder : AFTV mpeg2 + MediaCodec is not accelerated

All HD chanels in Germany are not broadcasted in MPEG 2 like in the US, but in H.264 (MPEG 4).
Only SD channels are MPEG 2.

Still undecided. I cannot do only autodetection, because some droid devices do a pretty good job of de-interlacing when decoding, and then the gles de-interlacing is unnecessary, and actually degrades quality. I'll probably do detection + advanced settings, but I'm nowhere.

Do you know which devices or chipsets, off the top of your head, handle deinterlacing well in Android?

This has already been answered....

Wetek Play is the one to look at....

Look at Amlogic chipsets for deinterlacing.

And for the real detail on the Amlogic S805....

Live TV and deinterlacing however is a different matter....
