It does stay on 24/7 but if you dont have PTVL pulled up it continues to run in the background. When you go back to PTVL it is already running and the channels are already updated depending on the update schedule you set. It doesnt have to rebuild the channels each time you go to it so it is much smoother using it this way.
Awesome, thanks.
So with Settop box mode what are the drawbacks?
Also, do you put background updating to on/minimum/ or off? And then set how often it updates to automatic?
Keep in mind I am not an expert on this mode so others may have better input concerning its use. Do a search in this thread for it and you should find some good info. When you enable it there is an option to choose a global update time. Also you can control individual channel updates by setting a rule in the channel config tool. I believe when you enable settop box mode it overides the other channel update setting you are referring to.
I think the background update setting determines how it updates when you first start PTVL. It will load the first channel and then create the others in the background if background updates is set to on. I dont think this affects how settop mode works.
Drawbacks? I havent seen any. The one thing is it will continue to play whatever channel you were last on even if PTVL is not pulled up. At least that is how I understand it, so that may be considered a drawback. So if it is a internet stream it will continue to stream it or if it is local content it will continue to access that content. However this doesnt affect using other programs or viewing other videos from your library outside of PTVL.
If any of this is incorrect, someone please correct me.
Here is how it was explained to me... 1916323 (post)
Awesome thanks!
now if I could just get this thing to autotune and figure out why it's not.
Edit: It seems to be related to the internet sources stream. I let it run for a while and then I get an error saying
"Could not download information
Unable to connect to the remote server
Would you like to continue scanning"
When I hit yes, it just stops autotune. Then when I go back into PTVL it has a lot of the channels, but hardly any of the internet ones.
No donor movie channels or anything. Not sure if it matters, but in options it's set to "DONOR" not "COMMUNITY" for source.
